Can I stay alone after RNY?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if I can stay at my house alone after surgery? I have great friends to come check on me, but I really think I'll be much more comfy at my own house. (They really want me to stay with them)

Thoughts? ?

If you are used to caring for yourself at home, then you will be fine. My mom was at the hospital with me and I only stayed one night. And then she stayed with me the second night (i.e. my first night at home) just to be sure everything was ok and then I was on my own (not that she and others didn't check on me). Mostly you just sleep, drink, walk, take your pain meds and repeat for the first week or so. I would agree you are probably more comfortable at home (well I am anyway). Maybe they can stay with you the first night and then see how you do from there?

You will be in the hospital few at least 2 days. I was fine when I came home because all I wanted to do was sleep in my recliner. I could not sleep in my bed for about a week. The main thing you have to make sure you do is sip, sip, sip, and continue to sip on Water or other approved liquids. Thank GOD my surgeon allowed Power Ade zero, because Water was soooo difficult to get down. I also bout Ispoure Protein drinks (avail at GNC) because I could not stand the Protein powder at the beginning. You do not want to dehydrate because it will make you feel like your dying. I did great the week after surgery and then stopped drinking the required amount and found myself sick, at the hospital getting IV fluids. SO to directly answer your question, YES you can go home and will do fine as long as you follow the doctors orders. BESY OF LUCK

Everyone is different, and there's always the chance for complications, but by the time I got home, I would have been ok to take care of myself if I had to, but I was so tired that I needed my hubby to wake me up to take my meds and drink my drinks. Maybe a friend would be willing to stay overnight for the first night or something just so you know if it's something you can handle.

I think it really depends on the person, and how the surgery went.

I needed more help after my gastric bypass (laparoscopic), than I did with my most recent surgery which was an open surgery. Maybe the lower weight now, has helped me to be able to do more for myself.

You know yourself, but one thing I do completely agree with, is that I couldn't wait to get back to my own bed, and I slept and slept and slept. Unlike the entire week I was in the hospital with my gastric bypass.

I would suggest at minim have someone there when you take a shower.

I was home alone the first day I was home. Hubby made sure I had everything I would need and then he had to drive to Wisconsin.

Now I have had lots of surgeries so I knew what to expect and this one was a piece of cake for me.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
