I'm a newbie....real excited but lots of questions

Recommended Posts

Just had my first visit this week...but didn't get a good nutritional picture on going forward. I already take a lot of supplements...no one addresses any impact changes and additions may have on my regular meds and otc. Also the one sheet I received regarding the step down diet was extremely basic. I almost felt like it was open to interpretation. Any suggestions on specific questions I should be asking and to whom?... My primary, my bariatric surgeon, the nutritionist or the nurse????

I'd suggest reading the forum topics relating to your concerns. I've found that most doctors are a little vague about what to eat. Some are very specific and restrictive. Following the basic rules and talking it out on here helps me a lot. I'm down 57 lbs since 11.18 so it is working, stalls and all.

Best Wishes!

My pain management doctor wants me to eat Paleo lol.

Hi Tssiemer1, I'm sleeve pre-op. My primary motive is reversing co-morbidities. I had constant pain. During my nearly 6 months since starting this process to get the surgery, I started out searching for an anti-inflammatory diet and landed on Paleo. There are lots of different ways to do Paleo, and I'm doing mainly an auto-immune protocol (AIP), but I do eat some dairy. I've been learning and doing it now since about November, with full focus since January. I've lost about 20 lbs, several inches in my waist, but best of all, the health benefits have been amazing. My inflammation and pain are a non-issue most of the time now. It's really true, Paleo reduces pain and inflammation. The food is delicious and very plentiful. Sugar cravings gone and under control. I'm feeling like I'm going to be a sure thing for long-term success by adopting this lifestyle now, and then keeping it going post-op.

My NUT and team were vague about these 6 months as far as what to eat and how I was supposed to lose weight (I must meet with them every month, show diet journals, progress, etc.) They're very supportive about what I'm doing, though.

I have my last NUT visit, #6 of 6, in 2 days. Nothing left to do after that but submit everything to my insurance company and then book me for surgery. I am beyond excited! Hoping for a surgery date this month, but it might be May.

I went to my first nutritionist appt yesterday and found them very helpful. Ask questions if you don't feel like you're getting the information you need. I already have more questions that I'll be asking next month. Good luck!

My initial dietician visit was with a group of about 8 potential patients, and one lady totally dominated the questions.

I pretty much used my own judgment for the first month, and asked a ton of questions in my first one-on-one the following month.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
