I was approved for surgery on May 25th 2016. I'm nervous, but excited . My daughter says I don't need it, I can lose it on my own. But she doesn't have to give herself insulin shots every single day. But I am going to have surgery. I have health issues. And getting surgery will give me the tools I need to be healthy. The only thing I worry about is hanging skin. Is there anything I can do to help the hanging skin while I lose weight ?

Exercise with weights...that's what I was told by my dr. I'm concerned about the hanging skin but I'd rather lose all this weight!! My surgery is this friday!! Good luck with yours.

It's easy for other people to say we "don't need" this surgery when they have not lived in our bodies and lived our lives and have no idea what we've been through and deal with on a daily basis.

As for loose skin, mostly it's not something you can control, unfortunately. It's true that staying super hydrated and lifting weights can help, but really when you're weight training you're just increasing muscle mass and hopefully tightening muscles as well. This does not include the skin in any way. Generally, that's all up to your genetics, age, how much you lose, etc.

Congrats on your approval! You'll do great. :)

I don't understand why people say "Oh you don't need the surgery". Like, if we didn't need it, it wouldn't crossed our minds. Sometimes, losing the weight is not the problem, but maintaining it. Then on the flip side, we may lose 10-20 lbs with no problem and then hit a hard plateau. So, we need a tool to help us out.

I notice that when I start explaining why I'm doing this the way that I just explained it, they are better to understand my pov.

OP just explain that this tool is going to save your life and she'll understand. Even if she doesn't, you have taken the steps needed to get healthier.

to be honest, I'm scared of the loose skin, as well. But I'm going to attempt (once again) to get into weight lifting.

I noticed working out with kettlebells is helping me tone up considerably. I started doing it and while I only dropped 5 lbs since I started, the difference in 5 lbs an the toning has been huge. I've lost a ton of inches.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
