This Pre-Op diet is the pits.

Recommended Posts

So I started my pre op diet a day early yesterday. I wanted to allow for any mishaps or problems. Boy am I glad I did..... the protien powder I picked was the worst, the protien bars I liked had a mix up at the factory and weren't the same ones, i was falling asleep at my desk by 2pm, and I also got hit with a huge emotional blow yesterday. I did well all day, but ended up caving to have dinner. All in all I failed yesterday, I guess it's a good thing it was a trial run.

So I went to the store to exchange the bars, found a different powder, I'm taking a B Vitamin to help with energy, and I found a way to handle the emotional blow.... Today is the official start day. Hope to do better today. I just try to keep reminding myself that this is for a good reason.

Was it hard to stick to the pre op? What helped you?

Pre op was tough the first 2 (out of 7) days. I only ate Greek yogurt,SF Jello, SF pudding, Protein shakes, broths, and strained creamy Soups. After the third day, it got better.

It is definitely hard. We don't realize how much our bodies depend on food. Food is every where too. The 2nd day is pretty rough. But the 4th day, it gets better. I'm on the week of my surgery. 2 more days of this diet. I'm so done and ready not to be hungry anymore. Even though I will be on liquids after, just hope not to be hungry. Just try to keep busy. Watch your favorite movies or shows. I'm on all full liquids. broth, shakes, Jello and popsicles. That's it.

That's the great thing is I'm tempted of course but I'm not really hungry. We had a snow day here today so I had to stay home from work. I'm occupying my time by cleaning as much as possible. It'll be helpful in the long run I think. If I deep clean now I won't have to worry as much once I have my surgery. :) trying to stay positive. It's much easier with a shake and protien bars I like.

I'm allowed to have one meal with lean meats and non starchy veggies. I think next week I may cut out that lean meal and just do shakes and bars. Any of yall opted to do liquids and bars only?

I'm doing the pre op diet right now, it's just a trail since I am still waiting for my date. I was told to do at least 7 days, aim for 14. I am on day 8 today. the first few days were the worst, I was hungry all the time, and that I work in a grocery store didn't help! Day 4 it got better, and last night, at the close of day 7 I was fine, not hungry, but I still needed to have something else to make my Protein and calorie goals. I'll have to do this again for a week before surgery, but I'm glad that my surgeon makes this trial run mandatory. It helps to know that I've done it once, and can do it again. Talking to my fiancee when I'm craving or missing foods helps too. I certainly feel your pain, just know you're not alone! You can do it!

Isopure protien shakes are really yummy! I had chocolate today and didn't feel like I was drinking a protien shake at all.

I would follow your plan, especially since it sounds like you are struggling a bit. cutting out all food could lead to a binge, which leads to feelings of failure. Itll be okay.

My biggest set back was the shake being gross (which I found one I like) and the protien bars having been different (which I exchanged). Now that I had that sorted it was really easy to stick with it today. I'm not really struggling with hunger right now. Temptation from knowing I can't have X, but not true hunger. Which is easier to fend off for me. :)

I'm gonna slowly trim my pre op and see how I do without the meal. Right now I'm doing the meal for dinner so if I end up feeling the need for food, then I can just have my "lean meal" for dinner as usual (I've meal planned so it just has to be thawed).

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
