How long were you in the hospital post op?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery Wednesday 2/3 and was only supposed to stay over in the hospital one night but it's Friday night and I'm still here. Im having a miserable time getting fluids down and my pain is not being handled by the pain meds that the nurses are giving me (oral hydrocodone and iv dilaudid). I'm stressed and frustrated that my surgeon has not been to see me since the first Thursday morning. I have gotten in 22 ounces of fluids today and i know my nut said it will be hard to get in at least 48 at first but should I be on IV fluids to supplement? I'll take any advice I can get right now.

I was at the hospital mid morning, surgery at l pm, and home by 6 pm. Had one pain pill at home. The more you are hospitalized the more apt to catch something. Call his office if you have to! I was in the grocery store two days after the sleeve. Browsing and feeling great.

About 26 hours. I just had to be able to drink and eat a little off my tray to be allowed to leave.

Have you asked for different pain meds?

3 days. On IV fluids during that time. I was pretty sick after my surgery so I was glad I was not pushed out too quickly. I also had my gall bladder out at the same time which I think slowed my recovery.

I did ask for different meds and was originally given morphine which did absolutely nothing. Pain has gotten better overnight and I have been okay on just the oral hydrocodone.

I went in 1/12 was released 1/14.

I was kept and extra day because I was sensitive to the anesthesia and slept the whole day after surgery. I wasn't out of bed till like 8 that night. I was released about 2 the 2nd day PO.

My doctor stopped fluids after 1 day Po. Are you peeing? They should be monitoring your output. (Sorry that sounds ewe). If you aren't peeing or showing signs of dehydration they should put you back on the IV. The fluids they give/gave you should give you a few days where your intake wouldn't be a big factor. (That's what my doctor told me)

Yes if you are not taking in enough liquids you should be on IVF! Tell the dr that!

Where did you have yours done at? I'm having mine done in Dallas in about 2 weeks. I will also be in and out in one day. This doesn't seem to be the norm.

Surgery was at 9:00am.

I was released the next day around 4:30pm.

No complaints and no complications.

Very smooth and easy process this whole time.

Only regret was not doing this sooner.

Done in Florida. Had a hernia too. Excellent surgeon, no complications though. I was 66, about three years ago. It was smooth sailing all the way. I am more worried about staph and MRSA in these hospitals.

I was kept 3 days. I had some issues with urine retention and had to be catheterized a few times to get things going. My sense is that they would've let me out earlier if not for that problem.

Agree! Any man having this surgery should try to talk the surgeon not to catheterize. It is about a 45 minute surgery, the sleeve. My husband had terrible problems with the catheter. His surgeon has done two more hernia surgeries on him and agrees, no more catheters!!!!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
