Corsets and Gastric Sleeve

Recommended Posts

Before i gained 100 pounds, I wore corsets almost everyday. Steelboned, plasticboned...whatever I thought was cute or made me feel pretty.

Have any of you worn corset post-sleeve? I *could* wear one now, at 315 pounds, but they dig and rub and hurt me.

Im worried that because of the loose skin I am going to have, that it will be the exact same problem. Not well-fitting and digging.

Any experience?

Post weight loss the problem I had is skin on my back"spilling over" I wore one for a costume and had to lace the top part loose. It wasn't uncomfortable though.

My surgeon advised against it. He said your pouch or sleeve is so small, he felt a corset would push food back up. Which is another problem, especially because acid reflux is common with the sleeve post op.

There was another post exactly like this a few months ago...maybe you can find it and see the replies. In terms of aesthetics, corsets just squish the skin, so not super awesome. Also, as someone else said, yes, your stomach does get squished to the point you can't eat. I have a few pair of tights that have a high waste and when I wear them, my stomach is so smushed that I can't eat anything. I also noticed after I had plastics, while wearing the compression garments your stomach is also so smashed you barf a lot. Real corsets are a lot tighter and more constricting than tights and compression garments (compression garments are just like being in a big sausage wrapper, as opposed to the targeted compression of a corset), so while you can wear them, especially if you don't want to eat a lot at night, you might not love the way the skin looks or the way you can't eat or drink anything without wanting to barf.

I wore one with a costume 4 and then 5 months out. What helped me was to wear a smooth nylon spanx-type shaper first to protect my skin, and then the corset on top of that. It made things much more comfortable and kept them from getting pinched.

I can't imagine using a corset regularly. ..I think it is asking for trouble (reflux)

Compression garments didn't make me vomit but definitely reduced my food capacity too much.

Ah, I only use them on occasion for costumes, and even then UNDER my clothes. But I use bodyshapers every day out of necessity. I have so much hanging/loose skin, and I'm still 83 lbs above a healthy BMI.

Thanks guys! i appreciate all the comments and advice. I also wear them for costuming, and it was a pretty important piece of clothing for my cybergoth gear, but not necessary...just...looked great, you know?

I think, once the time comes, Ill give the Spanx idea a try.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
