Hi All,

I'm a newbie so please be gentle at first. My question is concerning pain around my "port". I'm 2 weeks post op and cannot sleep on my left side due to pain around the Port area. Has anyone suffered similar symptoms and when can I expect the pain to ease??

Cheers

Jeannie

I'm 5 days post-op and sleeping in a recliner. The pain on my left side is unbearable. I keep thinking something is wrong. I also have no appetite at all. I have to force myself to eat the very little bit that I'm taking in-actually I should say drink-just full liquids. Sometimes the pain on the left brings me to my knees.

I still have too much pain-it's distracted me from food completely. I'm on full liquids for 3 more days, then I switch to pureed if I'm ready. I'm sure the pain on the left is from the port and it's probably just has to "settle" in, although that doesn't make things any easier when you are suffering. Good luck to you. I hope your pain goes away soon!

Hi all,

I am so sorry for all the pain you are feeling. This really scares me. My surgery is in 3 days and I am still not sure I am doing the right thing. There seems to be so much on going pain involved in this procedure. I don't mind a little pain and I can take a lot of pain if I know it is going to go away. But hearing from some so the people on this forum it sounds like you are in some form of pain all the time. Don't think I want to do that. Life is to short to be in physical pain all the time. I am used to the mental pain, I can take that. UGH

Sorry to hear about all your pain. I truely expected a lot of pain also but so far have had none unless I cough or bump my stomach. But I am only post-op day 2 and am a dyed-in-the-wool old nurse who doesnt believe in babying pain so I just set my mind against it and so far it has worked. I really hope it gets easier for you. Have you had this pain all along or did it suddenly develop after so long a time?

I am 6 days post op and the only pain I have is from gas and that is bad enough. Does anyone know what to do about the shoulder pain that goes with the gas. I haven't been taking the pain meds but think Iam going to give in and see if that helps. I have no pain at port site and still haven't found the port - - hope all is well with that!

Jeannie,

You are just 2 weeks post op and already back on the floor? Oh dear, no wonder you are having pain...Man, I could not imagine. My MD wanted me to take 6 weeks off but once I explained that I had an office job and with a little more fast talking he finally agreed to 3 weeks. But even at 3 weeks, I would not even attempt to do the heavy lifting and running on the floor. You must really be made of steel :). Keep in touch, it's nice to know there are fellow nurses here ;)

I am sure things will get better soon, i am not rushing it. thanks jeannie.

This is so funny. I am a nurse-10 years.. I've seen lots of nurses on here. I wonder if we get this way because we typically are taking care of everybody else and not ourselves, and finally...here we are... Maybe, maybe not, but I'm happy to have fellow nurses in the brood to help others with some of the confusion/questions! :clap2:

Guys...trust me...this too shall pass. A large amount of this is attitude. Think of it this way...short of Plastic Surgery, what other kind of medical intervention could you possibly have that will turn your life around the way this is going to? You know the old adage "Beauty knows no pain." Well, it's true. It'd be different if you were sitting there with stitches after having a ruptured appendix out or something...you have nothing to show for it all except not being "sick" anymore.... this is the exact opposite! When I was banded on 05-23, I couldn't WAIT to get to the hospital, couldn't WAIT to get my IV, get put under, come out in recovery, go back to my room, walk....etc. the entire time thinking "My God, my whole life is fixing to do a 180 degree change and I need to relish every minute of this process!"

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
