1 Year Post Op Depression

Recommended Posts

I'm one year post op and only down 63 pounds. I'm definitely depressed since I should have lost almost double that by now. I feel like I'm full of excuses when I say my knees or my back are killing me. I have herniated and bulging discs in my back and two knees that are bone on bone. I'm full of pain, I take pain medication at least three times a day, just to take the edge off.

My relationship with food is definitely much better. I love to cook and finding new recipes that are low cal and healthy is fun for me. Exercise,on the other hand, is not something I do often enough because of the pain.

Is anyone else having these issues? What are you doing to get thru it?

I have a suggestion...if your insurance covers physical therapy, find an excellent one. They can teach you how to compensate for the physical limits and the best part is, the stronger and fitter you get, the less pain those joints will cause. Or maybe look into injections or whatever it takes because getting MOVING is an amazing solution to many problems, including depression. Let us know if you want specific advice because otherwise I will just play my broken record...get back to basics, Protein, small meals, veggies, low carb, no grazing ,stay hydrated, track your intake and never give up.

I agree with @CowgirlJane.

I swim at our local wellness center that has a rehab component. There are so many people with a range of physical limitations who are able to exercise with a rehab therapist. I especially recommend you look into some Water exercise. It is very easy on the joints.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
