3 Month Post-Op and feel good, but slow losing

Recommended Posts

I have lost 51lbs so far, but I feel I'm eating to much, even though I'm hungry I never get sick after I eat. I've been journaling my food the last 3 weeks and average 1000-1200 Cals and 120g Protein.

My Water intake hasn't been the best -about 40-50oz. I'm trying to cut cals down under 1000, but having a hard time because I feel hungry. I can eat up to 5oz of Protein and feel fine. but the weight has definitely slowed coming off. Any help?

I've been eating around 1000 kcal a day at seven months out and thinking that was too high - so at three months out, yes, that's probably a bit on the high side. But it's also because you're eating 120 g of Protein. Were you told to eat that much? My blood Protein levels run low, so I was told to eat 80-100 g. It seems like most people are told 60-80 g.

people sometimes feel hungry if they don't get enough protein, but that's not your issue if you're eating 120 g a day. Maybe dehydration? Or maybe stomach acid? (do you take an antacid? I have to take omeprazole for the first year)

also, people often drop a lot the first month or two, and then it slows down quite a bit. I started losing 10-12 lbs a month after the initial drop, and from what I can tell, that's pretty common.

For the best results you really need to meet your Fluid goals too. Sounds to me like you're doing great!!

Find a way to get more Water in.

How is the excercise routine ?

Are you able to step up the frequency or intensity of excercise ?

Looks like you are doing great on Protein intake.

Getting my Water in is tough for me I get abt 40oz :-( per day

Exercise is ok, just cant get motivated. I work out about 3-4xs per week. I went and got a personal trainer to kick start me.

Ya- I have no problem with getting Proteins in, I'm glad I like that!

I wonder if I should go back to Protein shakes to get more liquid in

Increase your fluids! Not Protein drinks... you are getting plenty of that... Water and other fluids! Thirst is often mistaken for hunger. It is one of the most mis-read cues. Plus being well hydrated is good for the liver, kidneys, skin, etc...

Not getting enough fluids will actually act like hunger. You need more Water and less Protein and calories.

How many carb grams are you eating?

The hunger you think you are feeling is either head hunger or lack of fluids. Having the sleeve it could also be heartburn/reflux.

You should not be feeling actual hunger at this stage.

I haven't been counting my carbs- I hardly eat any. I'm not drinking enough fluids only about 40 oz per day. I eat about 120g Protein per day hence the higher cals.

How do you drink enough fluids? I used to guzzle Water no problem but after this surgery it makes me nauseous

I can no longer guzzle Water either. I just sip, sip, sip. Odd since many people are told to not use straws I also find using a straw help.

51 pounds is 3 months is great. I am not sure on the calories. Check in with your NUT. I am 8 months out and eat about 700-800 but my surgeon and NUT told me I am not eating enough because of all the exercise I do. I am only getting about half the Protein you are, but all my levels are great. Just keep at it.

I am 31 months post-op RNY. I lost weight very quickly and then it leveled off after about 6 or 7 months and then I slipped into the Maintenance phase. Those that have gastric sleeve have a different experience. They tend to lose weight slower than RNY patients but the time until they reach Maintenance phase can be significantly longer. The weight loss you have experienced thus far seems very good. Unless you are really into strenuous exercise, which appears not to be the case, 120 grams of Protein per day seems a bit on the high side and might be the cause of your problem.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
