Hi, I had my very first apt with the nurse practitioner on Tuesday. She says I'm a great candidate for weight loss surgery. I have to complete 6 months of supervised weight loss before my insurance will cover the surgery so Tuesday's apt started the timer :). I'm excited to start this journey, I know it will be hard but I am so ready for change!

I just wanted to introduce myself, I'm a mom of 2, a 9 year old boy and 1 year old girl. I work full time and run a small side business. I need to lose weight to keep up with my kids body schedules and because i want to teach them healthy eating habits.

I've enjoyed reading through different posts and forums, seeing the different struggles and successes.

Thanks for letting me be a part of this awesome community!

Kirsten

Wow! you are a busy lady! Welcome! As you have read through some threads you know how awesome this community is. 6 months can seem like a long time, but it really flies by pretty quickly. Good luck on your journey

Welcome! Best of luck on your journey and approval process.

Feel free to ask questions of the group as you go along. Also, there are a lot of questions that you might have which have already been asked and answered. My best advise is to learn how the search on this site works. It isn't super intuitive... I find you typically have to change it to search all forums, not just the topic you are on. But this is the way I found some great advise on stalls, slimeing, Protein in-take, hair-loss and more. It is great way to dig through all the great discussions that have come before.

Welcome Kirsten. Where in NY are you? I'm in NYC but I know it's a pretty big state and you might be somewhere near Canada for all I know.

I do have a question for everyone... My Dr has said it's up to me whether I have bypass or sleeve. I have roughly 150lbs to lose. I would appreciate any thoughts, what worked for you?

Welcome!

I was sleeved April 20 and couldn't be happier with my decision, my recovery, and my results so far. I have considerably more to lose than you.

I suggest you learn as much as you can about both procedures and talk with your surgeon about the benefits and drawbacks as it relates to your specific situation,

Best of luck

Hi there and welcome!

As you research more and more your choice should become very clear for you. There are tons of threads on both of these surgeries and both can help you meet your goal.

I chose bypass in the end mostly because I suffered from severe reflux and type 2 diabetes. Bypass has a proven record in curing these diseases and getting to better health was most important to me.

By the way, I have never had a single episode of heartburn or reflux and my diabetes is completely gone!

I have lost 135lbs and have 10 to go to hit an ideal weight. 1 pound to go to no longer be overweight.

I do not get dumping syndrome at all although on occasion if I eat too much sugar at one time I do get a tummy ache. Also I cannot eat eggs, those make me sick. Other than that I have no complications whatsoever.

Having bypass was the best thing I have ever done for myself.

Good luck and feel free to reach out with questions!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
