Question about Probiotics

Recommended Posts

I've been reading about The importance of taking pro biotics. Does anyone know if having the sleeve surgery will take away a lot of the good bacteria colonies in your stomach? And do any of you take Probiotics?

Many things can affect your gut biome - the surgery itself, the antibiotics, the drastic weight loss, the hormonal imbalances, the big change in diet, the list goes on. Probiotics aren't mandatory at my bariatric center but when I asked about it they said it would be a good idea. My digestion has been much better since I started. :)

Many times during surgery you are administered antibiotic to prevent you from getting an infection in the hospital. These antibiotics kill not only the bad bacteria but also the good bacteria in you body. Therefore it is a good idea after surgery to take probiotics for a week or so to restore the lost good bacteria.

@@heidikate My understanding is that this gut flora lives in the intestines, so the size of your stomach won't matter. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks for the info from your previous post.

I was not given any direction on probiotics, but will now be taking them, based on what I have read, from you and others.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
