Pre-op TMI Question for Ladies

Recommended Posts

Did anyone else have their period on the day of surgery? I'm usually right on schedule, and should have it the day of surgery. Were you able to wear a tampon?

The doctors have seen everything. They will like put you in a maternity pad. It doesn't hurt to call your doctor and ask them what you should do.

They won't allow a tampon during surgery. But you'll be fine - they'll give you pads. No big deal to them.

I started my period the day of surgery and was so upset! The doctors and nurses were so understanding. They made me remove my tampon and place a pad instead. It was a bit difficult to manage after surgery but obviously didn't phase them at all. Good luck!

Thanks ladies! I'll probably bring my own pads then! Those thick hospital ones suck!

Definitely bring your own pads. I was hospitalized in 2012 and started my period 2 day after being admitted and relied on the hospital's pads. MISTAKE. I tend to have a heavy flow on day 1-3 of my cycle and the hospital pads just didn't cut it. Thank goodness my mom was able to bring my products from home.

Let them know at your pre-op station before the surgery begins. You will be asked to change into gown and take off everything and at that point let them know. They will give you mesh underwear and a big old pad...silent signal to the surgeon on whats going on with you :P

same here...according to my calendar my period will start a day or two before my surgery, which is on 12/2. I was told the nurses and surgeon will be very understandable, plus they've seen everything. I hope I can manage to clean myself and change my pad myself after surgery

I was told I couldn't be on my period when having thus surgery and I'm a little worried because I'm not as regular ad I could be when it comes to this.

I emailed my surgeons office just to check. I would hope that they wouldn't cancel a surgery over your period! Maybe if I stay anxious about it, it won't come, lol.

My cycle is playing games with me, I'm never early but I'm spotting. My periods are really bad & I wasn't supposed to get it until a week after, surgery the 8th of December. I wonder if the pre op diet & nerves are the reason

I work in the operating room. I can assure you all, we do not care. It doesn't even phase us :P it is very common for women to begin their period before surgery due to the stress.

My period is due the day of surgery too. I asked my anesthesiologist and he said to check with the nurse who calls the day before the surgery, but it won't be a big deal.

I refuse to be embarrassed, I'm a normal human woman, 50% of all humans in the world have periods!

Wanted to add that I use Period Tracker on my phone, it adapts to your cycle and adjusts, it's incredibly accurate for me!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
