Considering Gastric Sleeve in Mexico...

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone! I'm from South Australia and been contemplating getting gastric sleeve done in Mexico as it is a quarter of the price and no waiting. I am trying to gather enough information about a good surgeon so I can start booking things like tickets and taking time of work.

I would really like to know who is a good surgeon in Mexico, which includes having good records, good practice, clean and hygiene etc...

Can anyone recommend someone to me? If you can post here or email suzan_bulca@hotmail.com

I would really appreciate it.. :)

I had mine done in Tijuana. It was great. Just do your research in advance.

That would be a really long flight pre and post op! Doable certainly, but there's nowhere closer you can get it done cheaper?

Why Mexico? I've heard so many horror stories! Not trying to scare you. My surgeon has to fix people all the time who go off to Mexico for their surgeries. Your body and this surgery isn't worth saving a few bucks. And there's my two cents:)

I wish i wouldnt have to go abroad to get WLS done by I am not able to wait out my health insurance policy to have a $25,000 procedure done. The same risks and complications arise from procedures done here in Australia as anywhere...that's why I need some specific answers of who would be a good surgeon, etc...

Do you have a bariatric surgeon, psych and nutritionist to follow up with though where you live? It's so important. Scary to think of someone having surgery in Mexico and not being able to fly to see him and his staff for all the follow ups or if you have any complications. Obviously it's your choice, but I still wouldn't go there. I would really do some research.

I'm having mine done abroad too, in Europe (I'm from the UK and having it done in the Czech Republic because of costs), so it's not going abroad so much as the really long flight. I would maybe look into somewhere cheaper in a country a little closer to home. Or are you planning on staying in Mexico for a bit? (In which case you may be in better condition to do the flight after, though it would still be long and dehydrating)

Thanks to everyone replying to my post! I appreciate the questions and the concerns and has helped me be more selective with my decision.

I have chosen to go with Dr Mario Camelo Ramos through Medical Tourism Co. It's still a risk to fly there and back but I've wasted so much of my life being overweight and unhappy..My underactive thyroid problem since birth has contributed to most of my depression and weight gain over the years. I am so sick of wishing that one day I might not hide from life as well as having children with my wonderful husband one day, because of my weight.

~~Kind regards to everyone, Suzan~~

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
