Do all Doctors require two week liquid preop diet?

Recommended Posts

I'm booked for 8th December, too. I'll start my two week pre-op diet on the Tuesday you have your appointment. Three Optifast products a day plus unlimited select fruit and veg. Also allowed sugar free jelly, lollies and gum.

My surgeon did not require a pre-op diet.

I'm also having my VSG December 8th. No pre-op liquid diet, just a recommended low carb, low fat 1800 calorie diet(even though I was not given any restrictions, which I'm ecstatic about with thanksgiving next week). I just have to ingest nothing by mouth past midnight before surgery. Congrats on the surgery; good luck with everything!!!

My doctor didn't require a strict diet, liquid or otherwise, but the nutritionist told me it would give me time to find the Protein drinks and Vitamin choices before the real thing. You can go to GNC or other Vitamin shops and get samples or try things. Also make calls to Protein Drink websites and request samples. The two weeks give you the time to do all of this and have it ready for when you get home.

I had to do a 10 day liver reduction diet. High Protein, low carb... to shrink the fat in the liver and make surgery easier.

I had to do a 4 week liquid preop diet because my liver was slightly enlarged. The first question I asked after surgery was, "was my liver small after you tortured me for 4 weeks!?" And alas, the surgeon says it was and that I had "beautiful margins." I was pretty proud of myself. It's definitely tough, but manageable and gets better as time goes on.

I only had a one day liquid diet before surgery. But i did have a diet plan to follow two weeks before but it was very reasonable. It depends on weight. The dr wants your liver to shirk so they don't nick it durning surgery:)

I think its dependent on how heavy you are. My dr. explained it as the purpose of the diet is to shrink your liver to give her easier access.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
