How did you all set your goal weight?

Recommended Posts

My physician has said 0 about this. They monitor everything. They are very thorough. I just am not sure why they won't tell me what my goal weight is. Did your doctors inform you of your goal weight? When?

Hmmm... I wonder when they usually do it?

They asked me. I said 150. That's 135 lbs to lose for me. It puts me right in the higher range of normal weight for BMI but I'll lose as much as I can. I just don't want to disappointment myself.

My surgoen asked me to set up but to be realistic explaining not everyone gets to a healthy BMi but it should be someone i'm comfortable so i set 164lb initially. which would put in the mid way overweight range, however since i've started this journey i've readjusted down to 150lb which will put me just at the lower end over 'overweight'.

i can sort of imagine myself being 150lb but i can't see myself any lower, not to say i may not change my mind when and if i get there. So for now it's 150 but we'll see how this journey pans out.

I think I would say 148lbs. I was really comfortable at that weight.

They never "gave" me a goal but we talked about what was a healthy weight for my height and size. He said anywhere from 130-155 is where he would like to see me.

So I set an initial goal of 135 (I use to weigh that much when I was a competitive swimmer). But now I think I want to set a range and not a specific number.

If I'm anywhere from 135-145 I'll be happy. Everyone kinda finds their own "sweet spot" where they can maintain their loss.

My doctor asked me at our initial consultation what my goal weight was. I told him I didn't know because I haven't been a "normal weight" my entire life so I wouldn't even begin to know what was realistic. He end up writing down 200lbs. I was a bit disappointed thinking that he thinks that's the best I'll do, but I think he picked that number more because he didn't want to scare me with something that seemed so unattainable. My personal goal is 145lbs. It'll take a lot of work to get there, but it's my personal goal.

Dr. Kim is my former surgeon, and he refused to discuss anything about setting a goal weight with me. I consulted with my PCP to decide on a proper weight goal.

My surgeon and his assistant calculated my "goal" weight based on excess weight versus ideal weight (which I think was 160 for my height), etc. I don't remember the percentages off hand, but they came up with 220 pounds for me as my goal weight. That seems a bit high for me so my personal goal is below that. We'll see how I progress I guess.

I asked my surgeon at my 6 month check up what a good goal would be and he said he wants his patients to get to a bmi of 27. For me at 5'10 that's 190. I think I would like to be a little lower, I want more of a gap to that 200 number.

I'm 239 right now

During my first visit my surgeon said I could afford to lose 200 lbs. that would put me at 124. I don't think I have weighed that since I was 10. I am currently 210, I've lost 114. I'm completely happy. I smaller than I've been in over 20 years. Every additional pound I lose I will be happy with. I would be happy at 140-150, but if I don't make it there I'm ok too! My surgeon will not set a goal or tell me I have or have not lost enough. He keeps telling me that as long as I stick to the plan of diet and exercise I will continue to see results. I'm ok with not having a perfectly set goal.

One of the first discussions I had with my surgeon was a goal weight. He looked at me and said "your personal weight will depend on too many factors, pinpointing an exact number will distract you from the immediate goals. Don't worry, you'll get to a healthy weight and will have learned how to maintain that weight."

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
