Orbera Balloon t-minus 180 days

Recommended Posts

On Yesterday October 19th I had the Orbera Gastric Balloon procedure completed by patch behind my left ear

Day before:

liquid diet for the day before then nothing after 7pm

Day 1

Arrived at 7am weighed in at 336 lbs The procedure was nothing to worry about I was knocked out for the whole thing. The most painful part was the IV , the procedure It took maybe 15 min and I was back in recovery . I had a little scratchy throat but it went away in a few hrs .

During the first day after procedure I took it easy, I did not experience any Nausea or cramping .besides a little tingling in my stomach air escaping . I did take my meds . besides wanting a coffee i was not hungry . I drank about 12 oz of Water , little warm broth , and a sugar free popsicle. I napped on and off and went to bed normally with no issues. I don't even realize it is in my stomach, mine was filled to approx. 650 ML

Day 2

Weight 334 So far so good, no side effects , Had a scheduled appointment with the Dr. and dietician. not hungry . I am drinking water mainly, and sugar free popsicles .

I did notice that gas may build up under or on top of balloon and give you a temporary feeling of cramping, move around and change my position and it goes away, not bad at all. I plan of walking my dog for a mile or so today .

After Day 4 I can begin introducing watered down oats or cream of wheat . mushed up Soup ,

After day 6 more solid food can be introduced

More to come

Jeff

I had my procedure in Beverly Hills 6 days ago. I experienced no side effects until late the first night with some mild nausea and light cramping. It was all gone within 16 hours. I went back to work on Monday and have been adjusting to the liquid phase of the diet. I'm already 10lbs down. sugar free gatorade, miso Soup from Trader Joes and Kefir drink have neen the easiest.. Ive been trying to Water down the Protein drinks and they are still a bit challenging...I really miss the social aspect of eating. But, am open to discovering a healthy way of living for myself. Hopefully, i;; be able to start working out again.

The challenge of Proteins and enough h20 has been interesting.. 11 lbs ijn 1 week is awesome. I had a business Breakfast this am and pre planned my meal by checking out the menu.. They had a Protein shake w/ almond milk ... It was seamless..

I need to remember that the h20 is to flush the kidneys and helps with the fat loss. Tomorrow is my first day back at crossfit. This should be interesting.. i think that with the ballon, the crucial step to success is regular check ins w/ dr and support.... I'm not here to diet i'm here to learn how to eat.. and I could easily lose another45 lbs or so..

day 6 , the last day or two has not been as easy as the prior ones. I had a mild case of acid reflux and some nausea. Not hungry , sense of fullness is there . I think I need to take on more Water and Protein .

Much better after the first week , down 16 lbs 7 days , probably from not eating . Just did not want to eat felt full all the time.

After this first week I feel pretty good now. Had an egg salad sandwich but threw out the bread for lunch and about 3 oz of salmon with some peas for dinner . Will top the night off with a little applesauce and cottage cheese for desert .

I just got the orbera balloon on Wednesday. 3 days ago. I didn't experience the side effects of nausea or vomiting. A little stomach cramping. I've already been able to incorporate some semi solid foods back. Haven't lost any weight yet. I'm wondering if this is really going to work? I started at 183 and want to lose like 30lbs. Anyone else have this happen? Thanks!

@@jeff636 have an appt. at MNS with Dr. Scott next week. What can I expect? How long did it take between the initial appointment and procedure? Have you been satisfied with the follow up? Thanks for sharing!

I had the gastric balloon procedure on Thursday and had some nausea a couple hours after the procedure and threw up a couple times between yesterday and today--mostly just dry heaving since I am still on a liquid diet. I am concerned I am not drinking enough Water also. Today is day two and I was able to walk my dog around the block but i definitely felt weak and a little sick. I have some strange back pain underneath the balloon that feels like it's poking me...and I have been getting headaches. I am fatigued and one of the meds they prescribed me messes with my vision It feels weird to have something in my stomach that doesn't belong.I am hoping I won't be this uncomfortable for much longer...I have heard it could be a lot worse so I'm grateful for that. Any advise, suggestions, would be very much appreciated!!

I have had the balloon for 10 days now and I didn't have many side effects except feeling low in energy. Since I didn't have nausea I got to go to solid foods within a week. I'm disappointed bc I have been tracking my food and have only lost 2 pounds. I think I'm rare and my body holds on to a lot. My doctor said to give it time and if by a month I haven't lost much then they will put me on weight loss medicine as well. So far I am not sold on it, but I'm going to give it time. You should feel good soon and it gets more comfortable. Once you can eat Protein you won't feel as weak.

JLS , sorry for the late response , took me about 30 day or so, I was cash pay and I opted to bypass the seminar stuff. Just let them know you are ready to go.

I am just shy of 3 months , and doing well. my top issues have been

Nausea 3- weeks

Vomiting- 4 weeks off and on depending when I ate too much

Acid reflux ...(BAD) 6 weeks depending on what I ate

Burping

I am hovering around 35 lbs , went from a 48 waist to a 42 .

get rid of your large plates , use small plates . I find eat very small portions a few times a day works better

Ugh Im envious of your experience. I start school on Tuesday and am crossing my fingers I'll be able to endure it :( I know I'm not drinking enough fluids and I've barely started a full-liquid diet just today (day 4). I feel incredibly week and am miserable. Such a Debbie downer right here!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
