Alcoholic drinks after surgery

Recommended Posts

It is probably fine as long as there is no carbonated mixer.

My Dr. suggested to try things and see what works except stay away from carbonated and/or high sugar drinks.

Alcohol seems to affect me exactly the same post surgery as a dead prior to surgery. I have a fairly high tolerance.

So far nothing alcoholic has made me dump and id. pretty severely.

I drink wine and champagne because those are low calorie options without a ton of alcohol. Whiskey on the rocks is something I like as well. Occasionally I splurged on a mixed drink like a Mohito but I really watch those because of the sugar content and the calories.

Looking at mixed drinks there are a lot of low calorie options like the skinny vodka drinks and things made with soda Water etc.

I have found that my tolerance hasn't changed much. The hangover however is so much worse!!! And thanks for being honestly in your post, some people claim to be perfect on this site.

I drink vodka and Water with a splash of crystal lite liquid in it. Just FYI. I would say 2 of those will do the trick

What flavor Crystal lite goes well in the vodka/water?

I would make yourself some crystal light juice I did this even before surgery then add a little bit of vodka in it to try out one. Try just a splash of vodka see how that goes as time goes add a little more of it wasn't enough!!

I enjoy a couple of glasses of white wine once a week now that I'm about 100 days post-op. It's really quite enjoyable. I do drink slower and try to savor the drinks. But it's nice to indulge every once in a while. There's been pressing no medical concerns as a result of occasional session of moderate drinking. Bottom line, enjoy your drinks, but do remember moderation.

I tried Mio, Water and vodka and omg, it was GROSS. I tried 2 favors and it just wasn't for me, but maybe crystal light is better. sugar free strawberry Jello with strawberry vodka... Yum

I am 2 and 1/2 yrs out. Down 126 and maintaining. I can have half a margarita and then can't eat because I am so full and drunk. My husband usta say I was a cheap date. Don't like lobster and one drink got me drunk. Well now it's a half of a drink and no food. It doesn't last very long, but I can feel it. Make sure you are home the first time you try it.

I am now 14 months post op and only 15 or so lbs away from MY goal weight. I am a weekend drinker who used to love DRAFT beer. After surgery I stay away from beer. Changed to rum and diet cranberry. I used to have a very high tolerance for alchohol - not anymore! Let me start by saying that each time I drink it effects me differently. Some times I feel tipsy after half a drink - but other times I am able to consume a couple before I feel that way. I will say I can not drink like I did before! I don't worry about getting addicted - never had an addiction issue - and I only drink every few weeks.

I have had a margarita a couple times at happy hour with friends and had no issues, my surgery was 9/4/15. The first time I had two and I didn't feel anything, the second time I had one and had to sleep it off. So I would highly recommend holding off or at least not going somewhere that makes "strong" drinks.< /p>

Drink anything you like. Just try at home first so you know how it will affect you.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
