Since I've transitioned to soft foods.....

Recommended Posts

Hi. Surgery date was 7/27. Just started soft foods. everything I eat hurts...only able to get about 2 oz in at a time before I feel the "backup" and pain. I have tried fish, chicken, egg salad, chicken salad, turkey chili and it all hurts. Is this normal? any suggestions? I am able to do my liquids and Protein shakes no problem. I chew everything well, but think I may need to go back to purees. Had no issues with those. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I was the same.

I could get very little in at all when I first transitioned.

I still struggle wuth meat Proteins.

You may be rushing and not chewing adequately.

Or, as you suggested, you may need to do another week or so on purees.

Ultimately, your post-surgery progression should occur in accordance with your surgeon's/nutritionist's instructions...

Your best bet is to contact them and see what they have to say...

Good luck...

Keep us posted..

Kinda..

I was also sleeved on 7/27 and just started soft foods yesterday. 2oz is what we're supposed to be eating at a time. I eat 2oz and it takes me 30 minutes to eat. I don't feel stuffed or uncomfortable afterward, I feel satisfied. Are you chewing to mush and eating nice and slow?

Yep eat slower and smaller bites. Set a timer of 1 1/2 to 2 minutes and wait that long in between. I am almost 12 weeks out and I am still having trouble with too much meat. Just got to 1 oz at a sitting last week. That pain means you are full. It is just a different full. I really struggled with this so I stayed with puree for a LONG time. I don't know if it was because my stomach just needed longer to heal or if I was just too lazy to chew correctly. Either way, staying on pureeds longer is not a problem as long as you don't get stuck there forever. if you feel like you are eating slowly and small bites, go back to pureeds for a few days and then try again. Definitely call your NUT too with food logs in hand so you can be specific and see what they say - but don't be afraid to try pureed again for a little while. It will get easier.

There is an eat slower app available that times bites at 1:30 intervals... Good training tool.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
