HELP! Exercise? How much?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just wondering how much exercise is everyone doing. I'm 4 weeks pre op and I aim to do an hour of exercise a day either weights of cardio.

Have you been cleared for excerise yet by your surgeon? Usually they like you to wait at least 6 weeks for weights and anything really strenuous?

My surgeon released me for cardio at 2 weeks post-op. He just didn't want me lifting weights. I am 3.5 weeks post and haven't exercised at all yet. I plan to do 30 mins a day and work up to an hour.

Take in consideration that all doctors work so differently and that's what you should go by when it comes to exercising. Mine cleared me for all types of exercise after week 3. As long that I feel good while at it and to not try to do more that I can handle. So started longer walks and weight lifting. :D :D Hope this helps.

Pre-op? At least an hour a day.. for a couple days post I took it easy, but walked.. by a week I was back to running, and light weights.. week 2 back to spinning, and by 4 weeks post op I was back to biking, running, spinning, crossfit and heavy weights.

But good workouts pre surgery will help your body bounce back.

It's not always how much you are doing in terms of time...I think in order to keep the motivation going, you have to have an idea as to why you are doing it.

The reality is with rapid weight loss you are going to have saggy skin. It may or may not shrink eventually, but firming the muscles will help give contour and tone. Cardio will improve skin health giving you your best chance to avoid plastic surgery.

So you are doing the right thing balancing weights and cardio. I just walked first two weeks, put in elliptical on week three and light weights by week four. Increased intensity by no more than 10% a week until 2 months post surgery and then started doing heavier weights and month 3 began the Couch to 5K program so I could put running in the mix. Now I'm going to a very heavy HITT weight program, but taking more days off to recover and will mix walk and run days with that.

Keep challenging yourself, and have some fun. Did you know if you climb a 11,000 foot mountain with a 20 pound pack for 8 hours you will burn 6,000 calories? Lost three pounds doing that. ;-)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
