So I'm 6 months post op and have lost 85 pounds. I'm finally fitting into medium shirts(gulp!) and inching closer to 36 waist jeans from a size 44. Today I have taken out all the clothes I can no longer fit and its a huge amount of clothes. Maybe 2-3 large garbage bags worth.

What are some of your rules around clothing? With 30 more pounds to lose until I reach goal, I really hope to never ever wear these clothes again. But I'm very much aware that regain may happen in the future but I also don't believe in saving clothes waiting on a day that may or may not happen. Idk what to do!

I cleaned out my closet in stages. Good riddance!

I did save a few things to give me perspective - some days I pull out my old jeans I wore at my heaviest. It reminds me how big I really got and how much my life was out of control.

Get rid of them. It you have some favorites or some expensive pieces, consider having them tailored.

i gave the clothes i couldn't wear to thrift shop

during my weight loss i went back to that store

found smaller size clothes i could wear as i was losing weight

what goes around

comes around :)

EEEEEK

as far as saving old clothes "just" in case you gain???

please don't do that

gives you "a little " permission to say something like "oh well, i gained a bit,

i'll wear the next larger size from my closet

then later the next size, next size etc

don't be a pessimist that you will gain weight :(

be an optimist that you won't gain weight :)

realistically, you "might" gain a few lbs here and there :(

then work extra hard, to lose the weight again

you lost the weight once, you can do it again!!

do not save your old clothes, ok ;)

85 lbs down!!!

that's great

kathy

congrats

I donate stuff as soon as it does not fit. I do not want to give myself any room for gain back like I used to.

I like the idea of keeping one item to remind me where I started. I would love to donate to other women on this board who are a size or two behind me on this journey. I have some really nice work attire. 18/16w and some 2x shirts. Wonder if we can start a "donate" thread?

I guess I'm a hoarder, because I've kept all of my clothes. I went from a size 2 in college to an 18 just before surgery and now I'm back to a size 0-2, so I have allllllll of those sizes of clothing. It's funny though, the vast majority of clothing that I wanted to fit back into isn't really something I want to wear now and I ended up just buying new clothing anyway. I also tended to wear all of the same things over and over again when I was fat, so I don't have a ton of that clothing to start off with. I have a lot of those rubbermaid totes full of clothing from over the years that I wasn't going to wear anymore packed away in my garage. In hindsight, I think donating them would have been a great idea.

Pass them on as soon as they are too big!

Everytime I lose out of a size I donate anything that is too big. I cant stand a closet full of clothes I cant wear, and see no point in storing a bunch of clothes I cant wear.

Get rid of everything as soon as it's too big. You are going forwards so don't look back!

@@slsgeek

i got rid of alll my big clothes - wish i had saved something :(

after GOAL i went to the plus sizes jeans at Kohl's

(just like the "good ol days")

found my exact 2X blue jeans that i used to wear

took them to changing room

put them over my size 6 jeans

i stared at myself - just kept staring for a few minutes

tearing as i saw the old me

not a pleasant sight

i bought those pants to keep in my closet as a reminder where i never/won't ever be again

that's my story and i'm sticking to it :)

I remember the first time I purchased a "regular" size...It was about 8 months or so after surgery. I pulled them off the rack just to see if they would fit. I stood there in the dressing room and cried as I looked at the new, smaller me, fitting in a pair of shorts that were not "Plus Size". I walked out of the dressing room and bought them without even looking at the price tag (I was a little surprised when I found out how expensive they were). I will tell you, I will always own that pair of shorts - they are special to me.

Get rid of them! If you do start to gain, you will feel it in the tightening of your current clothes. That will kick you back on track. It's too easy to simply reach in your closet and grab a bigger pair of pants.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
