I lost 20 pounds between the week before surgery and 2 weeks after surgery. I'm 4 weeks out and have lost 3 pounds since last Tuesday. I'm wondering why the weight loss is slowing down. I'm still on liquids and my calories are the same. Am I eating too little. I figure my caloric intake is about 500-600 a day, some days less. Do I need to eat more to lose weight? I have heard that sometimes you can put your body into starvation mode. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with the loss, just confused to why it is slowing down now. Any answers for me?

Thanks!

I fully believe that your body loses in cycles.......... the weeks you don't lose pounds you will lose inches. It takes a while for your body to catch up with itself! As for the three pounds in a few days.. could also be water.. when i don't drink enough Water in a day my rings get tight and my feet swell. (and I know that the scale will reflect it too)

I actually gage my water intake with how easily my ring slips around my finger.

Anytime you drastically change your diet you'll hit a honeymoon weightloss, a lot of that was prob water-weight. Now your weightloss will taper down to a much more healthy 1-2 lbs per week.

Don't be too alarmed if you gain some of it back. I gained about 5 lbs before I started to find restriction. The fills can take awhile to get just right. Its a journey, not a race.

Thanks for the encouragement. I have been so confused about it because I haven't been eating anymore than I was to start with. Thankfully, my willpower has been incredible this far. I'm sure that I could eat more if I wanted. I'm worried that once I do start putting more calories in that my weight loss will surely stall. I hope not. When do you usually get your first fill?

Different surgeons have different first fill schedules, some fill at 4 weeks, some at 6 and a very few wait 8. Some surgeons believe that as long are you are not feeling like you are starving and you are losing 1-2lbs per week, that you do not need a fill.

Mellie, it sounds strange... but you are probably not getting enough calories.

Your body needs fuel, check with your Dr to see what they recommend at this stage. If I remember correctly, when I stayed between 1000-1200/day I was losing steady.

You should probably boost your Protein intake as well, if you like the shakes try to find one that is high in protein but does not have too many calories.

All the best,

Karla

Thanks Karla. I will try that. I just bought some Isopure and it has 50 grams of Protein. I've been drinking that for a couple of days now. I was down 6 pounds as of yesterday but this morning I was back up 2. I know I need to stay away from the scales. I see the doctor tomorrow so maybe he can tell me exactly what I need to be doing.

I think our bodies initally tries to adjust to the calorie ccut. Ive experienced this too. After a while the lbs go. The problem for me is the energy loss. my last fill my body slowed my metabolism to a halt. Its a struggle to get through a some what normal workout now and I get tired and sleepy a lot.

3 weeks 14 lbs and then 1 lb a week. After 2 weeks no loss following the initial drop

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
