Awaiting surgery via nhs

Recommended Posts

Currently waiting for gastric bypass procedure , I have an appointment in September which will involve me having a comprehensive medical inc seeing the Anethetist , weigh myself meet the nurse , surgeon , blood tests and psychiatric evaluation . Does any one know roughly the time between going to this evaluation and the operation itself as still have not received a surgery date yet and thought there might be a time frame that can't be exceeded between the evaluation and actual surgery inc pre op diet . As circumstances and body may change ... A less complicated way of explaining what I mean is that all the results from the evaluation made on me could become invalid or wrong if operation is not preformed relatively soon after my medical ....?? Any one else know?

I was told 2 1/2 years to 3 and then couldn't be guaranteed to have my place taken by someone more 'deserving'.

I felt it was such a long time and due to my age and health decided to go private.

Best wishes in your journey!

Like Kate I was told the waiting list is 2-3 years to have the op with the NHS but my GP said that realistically, as I don't have any health problems, it would be nearer 10 years - I definitely can't wait that long so have opted to have the operation done privately.

waiting for gastric bypass procedure

@@tia92

like you - @Kate_UK @Soodoo also live in the UK

I "think" living in the UK, it takes a longer time to have to wait for surgery :(

2-3 years, "maybe" up to 10 years :o

egads

I "think" Canada has a long waiting list too

other countries maybe

if a person in America is waiting for surgery due to approval from insurance - it could take as long as one year, maybe 2 years :(

i was approved in 6 months

others are approved quicker, or later

good luck

kathy

Wow such a long time !???? hopefully won't be that long fingers crossed already been 2 years but yes I think your right about people being more deserving , I know someone who got referred after me and has already got surgery because there was a cancelation , just trying to get specific time frames but I guess there is none which sucks ... Keeping strong though x

Thanks for replies x

It took me a year, but I could have had it done in 8 months, but needed to wait until school was out.

I'm from Vermont, in The United States, so I know that insurance and such is a little different, I had to have two Psych visits and six months of a controlled diet with a nutritionist, but after that I was ready to Go.

So sorry you seem to have a long wait ahead of you tia92. You have made a hard decision and are ready to get on with it. My insurance does not cover anything to do with weight loss so knowing I would have to self pay I chose to go to Mexico. I see a lot of people from the UK end up doing some form of Medical Tourism instead of waiting indefinately. I hope you do not have to do that but if you do it will be the best investment you will ever make. Good Luck

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
