How Much Weight Did You Lose in the First Couple if Weeks?

Recommended Posts

Jeez, @@bunnybunny626 ... you are doing eeeee-mazing! You must be a young'un to be able to lose that much weight so fast! :)

Honestly, I'd stop answering people's stupid "How much have you lost?" questions. Just tell 'em:

* I'm only weighing once a month now, so I don't know.

* I have no idea. My scale broke.

* Thanks for asking. I'm doing great! (Translation: Now, please f**k off and stop asking me that!)

* These days my focus is less on the scale and more on nutrition and exercise. Thanks for your support. (Translation: See above.)

* So far I've lost 871 pounds, thanks to my shrink who's encouraging me to get rid of the toxic people in my life. (Translation: See above.)

* Great question! How much do YOU weigh? (Translation: See above.)

:)

I lost 18 lbs the first month, too! Like Ann and Blerdgirl said, you started with a lower BMI. The losses won't be as much as someone with a higher BMI at first.

I just remembered something that happened the first week after surgery. (Let's face it, it's pretty much all a blur, isn't it?)

I was sitting in the waiting room for my first post op appointment, when a gal that had surgery the same day as I did came in for her appointment also. We had walked the halls together at the hospital and everything. We were talking, and I excitedly said "I've lost 8 pounds this week!"

She said "Impossible. I've lost 17 pounds"

I went into my appointment ready to cry. I told the PA, and he said "Barb, she weighs about 100 more than you do. Of course she's lost more weight! The more you weigh, the more you lose!"

He made me feel much better after that. ;)

Also keep in mind the weight loss is different based on age, pre-existing conditions & co-morbidities and sex. As for total loss, those who did preop diets will almost always have bigger numbers than you. I didn't have a preop diet so my total lbs loss at 10 mths is different than those who did. That said, I am happy & pleased with how my body feels & looks. Even though I still have a long way to go, I know I can do this.

I was sleeved 6/30 and I am down about 14lbs since the day of surgery (2 weeks ago) and I lost about 3 on the 2 day clear liquid diet. My BMI was about 41/42. I am sure I will hit a huge stall soon though.

No pre-op diet, and at my 2 week appointment post-op I had lost 34 lbs. I'm 30 years old, male, so it might be easier for me to get rid of some excess weight. Currently I'm at 2 months today post-op and down 58 lbs. I finally have been able to start running again without my knees feeling like they are going to break!

The important thing to remember is this isn't a race to see who loses the most weight. It's a chance for you to start over with healthy eating habits and regular exercise. If it takes some a year or more to hit goal, oh well... that means less skin related issues because they gradually lost weight instead of rapid weight loss and skin removal surgery later. I recommend weights to help with skin issues. It really seems to have helped me.

I am four weeks post op and am down 27 pounds. I lost 12 of that on my preop diet so I have lost 15 pounds in four weeks.

I am 4 weeks out today. I had no pre-op diet. At ,y 10 day follow up visit, I was down 19 pounds. I'm currently down 27 pounds, however, I've hit 2 stalls already. My doctor told me to expect to be down 10% of my weight the first month, and he's pretty spot on!

Also, I was in the hospital for 3 nights, as I was throwing up anything I drank. I'm sure I threw up all the IV Fluid, etc that was pumped into me, so I credit that to some of the weight loss.

I'm not expecting to lose this much in the upcoming months, so I will take this and just stick with the program. As long as the numbers on the scales (and my clothing sizes) keep going down, I'm good!

Don't be discouraged...as many of these members said, everyone is different!!

Good luck!!

Slow is not necessarily a bad thing. It gives your skin more time to recover & may lessen the amount of sag you have.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
