Products to make life easier!

Hey all!

I was just wondering if anyone can give me ideas on some products I can buy to assist me in my journey. Is there a certain scale you use to weigh food? Are there any measuring cups that are good to portion out my meals? Where can I buy suitable tupperware for smaller portions? Certain baking pans? Veggie Pasta makers?

Any tips would be great!

Thanks! ????

I bought a veggie spiralizer to make veggie noodles. I love Pasta and sauce. Zucchini "noodles" will never taste like pasta, but it is a decent compromise and easier to fix than boiling and draining pasta :).

Yes, get a good scale and measuring cups. I don't think you need anything "special", just what you like and can afford. Ziploc has 1/2 cup lidded plastic containers. I also got some glass containers with lids (I think they are Libby). Gerber has lidded toddler bowls.

I personally prefer adult dishes to toddler dishes so I got some sushi dishes, saki cups, Japanese rice bowls, and some appetizer spoons.

shaker bottles and Water bottles are staples. I just got a couple of insulated Water bottles (one for water and one for crystal light) to take to the pool. An insulated lunch bag and ice packs are also helpful.

Get some "half pound" containers. Like the ones when you order take out appetizing food that they give you. I bought some of those to portion out Soup. Also, my 2 new favorite toys are an immersion blender (because I keep Kosher, I bought 2. Bed bath and beyond for like 40 bucks) and a mandolin slicer (15 bucks.)

I made cucumber salad a few weeks ago from one of my pre op meals, and everyone in my family loved it. They wanted to know why they ever bought store bought. I made it again this week even though I can't personally eat it.

A strainer, food scale, blender, measuring cups, and small plates. Also if you enjoy coffee you may want to consider getting individual Decaf coffee bags. Making more than one cup at a time is a waste of coffee. Gas-x strip, Miralax, and bandage items for your incisions such as antiseptic spray, antibiotic cream and large bandaids. Also a small travel pillow has been priceless for sleeping at night. When I turn to one side or the other I use it to hold my tummy. For the first few weeks it feels like everything inside is shifting when you shift while laying. It also helps to keep your incisions from feeling so much pressure.

Small mason jars - I use them to make mini-meals (still on purees, so it's mostly egg custard and refried Beans for the moment) but they are perfect for 1/2 - 3/4 cup sizes of food.

They are oven safe, and the ones with straight sides are also freezer safe.

You can buy small tupperware containers on ebay if you don't want to buy from a local tupperware dealer.

Kitchen scale, I even got a travel pocket size scale for travel

A blender, one that crushes ice

I got Bento Boxes from Walmart for small portioned lunches for work

A lunch bag and blue ice

I got the veggie spiralizer but so far can't eat much to use it lol

A good bathroom scale if you don't already have one

A measuring tape, take your measurements to see progress even when the scale isn't moving

Lastly, a couple good Water bottles so you always have Water handy

These are some fantastic ideas. I will be following this thread and be sure to come back often as I prepare for when the time comes in 2016. Am going now to check out this veggie spiralizer- never heard of it.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
