Weight gain while in process

Recommended Posts

Did anyone have any issues with gaining weight during the process with the surgeon, nutritionist etc? I gained about 2Lbs since last nutritionist visit, hoping it doesn't cause a issue with insurance coverage. Any input would be great. Thanks, Joe

Hi there!

During my 6 months of weigh-ins, one fell on January 2nd. While I did much better over the holidays than I normally would have, I still gained 2.6 pounds that month. Sometimes they make people add another month if that happens, but I was told that if I could lose those 2.6, plus a some extra at my February visit, they wouldn't dwell on it.

I think every office is different, but that was my experience. In my case, I don't think the insurance looked too closely at those individual monthly results, just that the overall trend over 6 months was a loss.

It depends on your insurance and/or program. My insurance doesn't care whether I lose or gain. My program requires that I lose 10% of my excess weight or I cannot have my surgery, so they would not be okay with me gaining.

I must have the most lax insurance ever. I was able to schedule my surgery within 8 weeks of my consultation. I didn't have to lose any weight first, or provide a whole lot of history.

I have kiaser and they require a 6 month program. I had 1 weigh in where I went up. It was an unexpected weigh in at one of our classes. My nut said stay focused and she gave me some tips. My next weigh in I was back on track. I have my last weigh in, in 20 days. I'm so ready to be done with this program and on to the surgery. So I would say dont fret. Challenge yourself to do better next month. Thats what I do. Good Luck!

I've gone from 175 to 182! I told them I would pack on the pounds once i stopped diet pills... This is my main reason for choosing the surgery.

It's amazing how fast the weigh comes on and how slow it comes off. That should be against some rule somewhere!

Aetna is no net weight gain. U cannot weigh more than your first weigh in.

Can you explain more? I gained one pound in my last visit, will this affect the approval process ?

I took it to mean your first weigh in that started you on your journey should be your highest weight. You shouldn't surpass that any time.

Thanks so much for the responses. I wish I didn't have to wait the 3-4 months waiting game. I got everything completed for the surgery, I'm just waiting now.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
