My doctor is putting on phentermine

Recommended Posts

I used phens back in 2000. I lost about 70 lbs. and didn't feel hungry, but could clean the mess out of a house! Never slept and tend to snap at people. Well, I found out I was pregnant and had to stop immediately. I crashed from depression and no energy. Two months later I woke up one morning with the left side of my face callapsed due to bells palsy. I'm now 98% recovered, however, I will never take phen again. My daughter is now 6 years old and just fine, thank God! Now that I think about it, she is bit perkier than most.

Wow Pam, I am so glad your daughter is ok after that! I didn't know that bells was a possible side effect, I am guessing they didn't tell you either!

My doctor perscribed Phentermine for 3 days for me to jumpstart my weightloss and help control the original hunger. I hope it works, it did its job today!

It works, I have used it a few times and always lost. It gives me dry mouth and sleeplessness. It wires you up and you don't want to eat. After a while it loses its effectiveness. Everytime I stopped taking it though, I gained it back. The largest dose they will prescribe is 37.5 mg, but alot of docs start off woth 30mgs.Let me know how it goes.

Doc only allowed me to take it for 6 months. He said past that it could be dangerous to my heart. AND IT WAS. I developed an irregular heartbeat, and still to this day have trouble with it. In 6 months I only lost 18 pounds. Not that much. I gained it back and got a weak heart as a result.

I hated it! My doc put me on it a few times. At first, I thought "wow! this is going to work, I have so much energy". THEN - the dry mouth. That alone made me quite taking it. I wasn't ever on it long enough to see results. My mouth would get so dry and I would get so thirsty, I'd have trouble talking. Once I stopped taking it, everything went back to normal. Blah:blink:

I took Phentermine for nine months and lost 70 pounds about ten years ago. When I started to gain weight again, I tried taking it again to supress my appetite and lose weight, but its effectiveness had worn off. I tried it on and off for several years after that as the weight creeped back on. I gained the 70 pounds back and 20 more over time.

You might be able to lose the weight with Phentermine, but like all other diets, the weight will not stay off because your body will secrete hormones that make you hungry because it wants you to return to your original weight. It is that survival thingy that helped early man to survive famine. I wouldn't waste your time and money.

I lost 110 lbs with the help of Phen about 6 years ago. It only works for a short period of time though and your body builds up a resistance. I didn't have any bad side effects but I know people who have.

I also took Phentermine years ago, it worked well for me too..but the end result was not worth it, I gained everything back and then some! Phentermine is commonly referred to as the legal meth amphetamine.

My Primary physician that recommended the lap band is totally against Phentermine, so he prescribed me Meridia in the past, which is more of a long term weight loss drug and not to mention very expensive. I lost quite a bit but again ended up gaining it all back again when I quit taking it, because I fell right back into my old eating pattern. You don't really get any energy from it, it just tricks your brain into thinking you are not hungry.

I was on phentermine and phendematrazine (sp?) and it was awful. I am bipolar so I take regular psych meds. These drugs counteracted with my psych meds and I ended up in the psych ward, twice. I was so depressed I couldn't be left alone. I only lost about 15-20 lbs on it, too. And I gained it all back and then some. These are also very addictive. Be very careful and don't miss any doctor appts. while on it. They have to keep track of your heart and bp and all kinds of other stuff it can mess with. Because I was on it I have to have an EKG before my surgery.

I took back in 1998 to 1999. I lost a lot of weight, but then something was taken out of it by the FDA and they pills then did not work the same even when I was off of them for six months then back on. Then like over night all the weight came back plus an extra 90lbs. I think the pills are good of you need to lose under 30lbs but I am happier with my band now.

The frist month or so I was on Phen was AMAZING. I didn't crave anything. I would say....humm I should eat a lean cusine so I won't feel like crap later, I wasen't hungry. I lost 40 pounds in 2 months easily. It made my mind clear at work in the morning, no yawning, no laziness. But then.......it stopped working. I was so bummed. I though I found my "LIFE FORCE" or something. Of course I gained back the 40lbs plus 20 more a year later. It made me realize how people can get addicted to drugs easily! It's been about a year since I used it. I'd love to get my hands on some before my Aug 23rd banding date. Because I really feel, any weight I lose between now and then will STAY off. Plus I have a big trip comming up and I wanna get a head start on weight loss. Anyone know where I can order it online without an RX? I did about a year ago, but I can't find a site now thats not a scam. I'd definitely recomend phen, but ONLY FOR A LIMITED AMOUNT OF TIME. A pre-op diet would be a great time to use it. It definitely raised my BP.

My surgeon put me on it while I was on the pre-op diet. Tell yours you need a little extra help getting off your pre-of weight and you might be in luck!!!

I just started taking this on monday and as of lastnight, 4 days later had lost 7 lbs. I have not been hungry, which is a change from always being hungry. I have a lot of energy and have been able to do a lot. I have been going to bed earlier, but I can 't sleep past 4:30am. I also seem to need to cat nap about 2:00pm.

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
