My case goes to insurance today!

Recommended Posts

Hey Sleevers,

Today is the day my case gets submitted to Aetna. I have bariatric coverage on my policy and had a high enough BMI plus sleep apnea and pre-diabetes, so hopefully everything will go smoothly. I am going through the Bryn Mawr Hospital Bariatric Center with Dr. Richard Ing, who I have complete confidence in.

I am naturally anxious so until I get the insurance approval and have the surgery date set, I will be nervous. I am not scared of the surgery but am aware that I can expect some depression and second guessing myself afterward.

I am 41 and have lived through a lot of trauma in this life. I got clean and sober almost two years ago and am really looking at the sleeve as a tool that can help increase the quality of life now that I've come so far.

I am grateful to you all for sharing your stories and being sources of inspiration.

Scott

My surgeons office submitted to Aetna the Thursday before memorial weekend and when I called Aetna that following Tuesday (they were closed Monday), I had already been approved. My advice would be to call Aetna directly tomorrow or Friday and just say you're inquiring. Maybe you'll get a quick response too!

Thank you all for being the awesome, incredible, caring people that you are. I will call them Friday to see what they have figured out so far.

For those of you who have been through this process already, thanks for sharing your experience and advice. For those of you just starting the process, give it a lot of thought and be willing to hear opinions that may not match your own. For those of you waiting with me, I hope we all get the news we are waiting for.

Good luck!

Scott

My case was submitted last Wednesday, just currently waiting on a response whether I've been approved or denied *fingers crossed* I hope I get approved. How long did you wait to contact your insurance for an update?

Did you know who to speak to? Or did you just mention that you had submitted a request for gastric sleeve & they were able to locate it in the system?

I didn't know what option to select with the automated system so I opted to talk to someone then asked I wanted the status of my weight loss surgery approval then they transferred me to the bariatric resources and the nurse looked me up and said it's under review

Good luck to everyone who has had their case submitted to insurance. Mine should be submitted in a few weeks after my office visit with the surgeon. I am excited and nervous and HATE TO WAIT!

I actually called today, & they were able to locate it in the system, but I guess my surgeons office has only started the submission process & not completed it. So I'll contact my doctors office on Monday & see what the hold up is, since my coordinator told me last Wednesday that she would be submitting it all that day.

I have my final appointment to go over all of my tests from the insurance required 3 month monitored weight loss on Monday. I cannot wait! I pray they submit everything that day and I can get approved quickly. Does anyone know if they'll let you schedule a 'soft' date while waiting for insurance????? I figure it doesn't hurt to ask, haha but I'm assuming NO.

I got approved! Surgery is July 7th. I have my last pre-op appointment with my surgeon on Monday along with pre-admission testing.

I could have had my surgery June 30th or July 1st but I didn't want my wife having to take care of me during her birthday week.

To those of you waiting for approval, best of luck.

Scott

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
