I purchased a container of Injury Unflavored Protien powder and mixed it with Water and crystal lite- it was the most disgusting thing that I tried! So now I have this container and don't know what to do with it! Does anyone have any ideas on how to use it? I see that alot of people mix it with jello- I don't eat jello! I hate to throw it out, but that first taste totally turned me off to trying it with anything else!

Thanks!

Mixing it with Jello tastes just like mixing it with Crystal light! I have a few unopened containers still lurking in my cabinets 14 months post-op. I guess I should probably throw them out at this point! Unflavored still has a flavor! Yuck!

I luckily just tired a sample packet. Did the same thing crystal light. It was horrible. I think you can add it to Soups and oatmeal. I did make Jello with it and that was not too bad.

I like to mix mine with warm chicken broth. That really masks the taste.

Put it in a blender with some fresh fruit, a 1/2 banana, Peanut Butter, chocolate, just about anything you can think of...add 8 ozs of almond milk, skim milk, or just Water, and you will have a high Protein, nutritious smoothie to stat the day.....

In the summer, add ice cubes to thicken and cool......

The poster didn't say which stage she's in. I would say just be mindful of the calorie and carb content when doing this. This could easily end up being a 500 plus calorie smoothie if one isn't careful! Also blending things with ice adds both air an volume which can be challenging right after surgery. Not such a big deal the farther you get out, but if your struggling to get every ounce in, you want to make sure you ingest every ounce of protein in that smoothie! Keep in small!

I use GENEPRO....it is unflavored and oderless. You can mix it hot or cold. I have been using it for the last ten months and I love it. I had a hoorible time finding a Protein drink I could tolerate right after my surgry.....they all gagged me! I mix mine with Crystal Light (or Wyler...it is cheaper) lemonade and sip on it all day.....30 grams of Protein per tablespoon.....so you don't have all the clumping and yucky stuff!

I found the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored was better in things that were heated up, like Soup or in something blended like a fruit smoothie (if you're allowed smoothies) or a shake. When you put it in something just to drink, it gets thick and cloudy and you can definitely taste it. It's unflavored, but it's not tasteless.

I am going to try it in a smoothie or chicken broth- hopefully that will mask the flavor! Thanks all!

GENEPRO Protein Powder is the only way to go! I bought mine on Amazon. It's a little more expensive but trust me, it's worth it! 30 grams of Protein in a little spoon full. It is tasteless, and a very light consistency that mixes up and dissolves right into literally anything you put it in whether its hot or cold. I usually add it to my coffee every morning, but have also put it in yogurt, oatmeal, Soups, etc. I also learned about it right here on Bariatric Pal :)

Thanks for the Genepro recommendation. I'm 14 months post-op at goal weight and have never heard of it! I'm trying to build up muscle weight so looking to add in some more protein to my diet. Can you tell me how many calories are in a serving? I also looked it up on amazon and came across this review. One scoop may only have 15 grams of protein in it, not 30 grams. Does it actually say on the container a serving size is one scoop? Many can be misleading. I know on my Isopure you have to use two scoops to get the protein amount listed on the label.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
