I've been a coffee drinker for almost 30 years. When I was in my 20's, I easily drank 5 cups per day. In my 30's, I committed to 2 cups per day maximum. I also drink a strong cup. A weak cup of coffee to me is like drinking Water. In the past month, I have been working on 1 cup per day and that alone is difficult. My surgery is in about 3 weeks. How on earth am I going to give up coffee ? I love my coffee. Not to mention, it's what keeps me "regular." I'm afraid if I stop cold turkey for surgery, not only will I be constipated naturally due to surgery, but also because I'm not having what my body is used to. Here I am concerned about my coffee, and not my pre-op diet.

I would appreciate any advice from my fellow serious coffee drinkers !

I am a serious coffee drinker. My doctor said I could have coffee. I just need to buy Decaf. Of course I drink mine black so there are no issues with sugar or Creamers.

You won't have to give it up for long, I went back on it a couple weeks after. In fact, I am heading out soon to get a grande something!

Just like @, I only gave it up for a couple weeks. I'm like you. I have to have my coffee! I weaned off slowly before surgery and by surgery time you're on pain meds anyway, so any headache from withdrawal you may have you don't notice ;)

Now I limit myself to 2 cups a day. No more, no less.

Everyone responds to the surgery differently, and you may or may not be able to tolerate coffee right after surgery. I was told to stay away from caffeine for the 1st month. Unfortunately, Frankensleeve would tolerate almost nothing for that month. Most of my meals centered around Crystal Light lemonade and re-fried Beans. I took a sip of coffee here and there, and paid attention to how Frankensleeve reacted. At the end of the 1st month, I was able to drink coffee again, but not much, for months, I was only able to hold a sip or two every 30 minutes. Now I'm back up to 4 cups a day.

I too gave it up for a little over a month. I love the hazelnut black only.

This post makes me very happy :) Did you drink coffee all the way up to your surgery or stop during your pre-op?

I think this will be my plan. Thank you. I'm feeling a bit more positive about it now.

I like that click Protein Shake. You can get Decaf or regular. Its good mixed with milk

I had never heard of Click Protein shake until now. I checked it out on Amazon. Looks good ! I am wondering, since the caffeine is mixed with the protein shake if it will be better on my stomach...

Frankensleeve - lol !

Interesting, so its possible it may not even be an issue as my stomach may reject it...

In reading the posts, I think I will look into Click Protein shake just in case following surgery as Soapandcandlequeen posted above.

Thank you, I appreciate the info :)

I loved my coffee before surgery....however, after surgery, my sleeve doesn't seem to like it much anymore. I'm only 5 weeks post-op so I'm hoping sleevie comes to accept an occasional cup as time goes on. I can handle a tsp of instant coffee in my Protein Shakes, but that's it right now. The good stuff messes with my stomach acid. ????

Does anyone know if the chike comes in Decaf? I have not tried it yet but I love coffee flavors

All Chike flavors are really good you can try a sample pack https://chikenutrition.com/chike-variety-pack.html I don't think it comes in decaf though.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
