Bypass Reversed to Sleeve- still can't eat.

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone. I've been meaning to get on here and share my story and ask for advice.

The condensed version is that I had gastric bypass 6 months ago, ended up in the hospital for almost four months in extreme pain, had my gallbladder removed, another diagnostic surgery, and finally opted to have my bypass reversed and converted to a sleeve. Doctor suspected I had roux limb syndrome, and rare and painful condition where the intestines don't work.

I had sleeve surgery 2.5 months ago and I have not been able to advance my diet. I have lost 100 pounds in 6 months and am very near to my original goal weight, which may actually be less than I want to weigh. I am already very thin.

I can only eat yogurt, some cheese, broth, liquids, and sometimes I can eat hard pretzels. Protein shakes give me diarrhea now and I can't tolerate anything sweet.

When I try and eat other things my stomach hurts like crazy and I have to make myself throw up. Sometimes even yogurt makes me sick. I struggle constantly with dehydration as Water also tends to bother my stomach. I feel like I am in prison with these restrictions going on for so long. I am desperate to be able to advance my diet and get in meats and veggies. I am also feeling very hungry a lot more now, a sign to me that my body needs and wants more food.

If anyone has any advice for me I would greatly appreciate it. Am I just expecting to be able to eat more than I am ready for? Its been about 10 weeks since I had my sleeve surgery.

What does your NUT say? Can you tolerate any meat, maybe with a little mayo or gravy? That would give you calories too. Are you chewing very well? I feel for you and wish you the best of luck.

Water still hurts my stomach (5 months post sleeve). I drink Vitamin water and Sobe. There is something about the surface tension of water causing problems.

For meat , ground beef moistened with either gravy, canned tomatoes, or Soup may work.

You may be having acid problems. If your surgeon isn't helping find someone who will!

I wish you luck.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
