What should I take with me to the hospital?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any recommendations for things I should take with me to the hospital? I'm not referring to normal things like comfortable clothes and toothbrush, etc. But things related to bariatric surgery.

I'm being sleeved in just over 5 weeks and it will take around 12 hours for me to get back home after leaving the hospital. I don't imagine that I'll be in the mood to search for specialty items in airports.

My cousin recommended GasX. What do you recommend?

Definitely Gas X strips, chapstick, maybe a book or kindle if you're a reader...comfy loose clothes to wear home, brush or comb for your hair, magazines maybe. I took a lot of things and luckily didn't really need them all, I was doing lots of dozing in and out...then the rns and cnas coming in and out taking vitals and such. My advice is to take a tad more than you think, just in case...it also depends on your hospital, mine had great wifi and their cable hook up was great for movies and such...could even access the internet from my tv.

Good luck and go with the flow :)

@@ValerieDee1975 Thanks for the tips. I'm having surgery in Tijuana at the Obesity Control Center. If all goes well I'll just spend one night there then a couple more nights at the hotel. I don't imagine I'll be roaming the city so want to be prepared. Trip home won't get me home until around 1am.

Chapstick was a lifesaver!! If you're a diabetic then don't be shocked if your blood sugar goes way up after surgery. Mine shot up to numbers I haven't seen for 3 yrs and nearly 100 lbs ago. And with high blood sugar you get super dry mouth!! Not good when you can't drink anything. And of course don't forget the cell phone charger. ????

@@desertgirl_74 Thanks! So far I'm not diabetic. I have been suffering from dry mouth while I sleep since I started the Atkins induction diet. I've been using Biotene but still wake up with a dry mouth. Definitely not good for my teeth.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
