Surgery Buddies, who was sleeved 3/25/15 or that week

Recommended Posts

I want to see who else had surgery on the same day so we can keep and touch and see how each other is doing. So far I guess I am doing okay, I have lost 18 pounds my first month. I have joined the gym and really want to get this ball rolling. I start eating my lifetime foods on May 6th and I can't wait.

Seems like I am one month behind you. Feeling great! Able to hold down all of the liquids I can have. Not the least bit hungry. Can't wait to add some creamed Soups, only because the chicken broth is not my favorite taste. Right now, nothing taste better than Water to me.

Hi, I was sleeved on 3/25 too. I lost 30 pounds the first 4 weeks but haven't lost anything in the last 2. I'm trying not to get discouraged since 30 lbs is a lot in a month. I can move on to soft foods now. I haven't had much trouble with any food yet. Some things seem to sit in my stomach for a long time like egg salad. I did eat a little bit of tortilla and it sat like a brick for hours. No tortillas for a while!

I was if the torilla was softened or ground if it would work? I love the flavore of corn torilla's.

Don't get discouraged. Losing 30 lbs is amazing!!!

What was the first added food you chose to eat? I am dreaming of a taste of mashed potatoes or apple sauce as I sit here recovering on day five. Can I tell you how much I hate watching TV? If there was ever a reason American's are overweight it has to do with the amount of commercials that are food related. Even during the thousands of infomercials on weight loss items like home gyms and exercise videos, there are dozens of ads for food. It's starting to be painful.

Keep up the great work

The first real food I had after full liquids was scrambled eggs. I was so looking forward to them and they were a big let down. Kind of tasteless and sat like a brick in my stomach for hours. I now eat soft poached eggs no problem, delicious!

I've since gone out to eat with family and had potato Soup and it was so good!

I REALLY CAN/T UNDERSTAND WHY MY scale HAS NOT MOVED!

How is it possible to have not a bite of food cross your lips in over 7 days, and have 80% of your stomach removed...and not a pound shows gone on the scale? To make matters worse, I am so uninterested in chicken broth. I have had 2 sugar free jellos and a couple of popsicles. Other than that, I am only drinking water! I am so ready to see the scale move!!!

I said the same thing Rhonda4524, I think it is because you are not eating enough. That is a very weird thing

I was sleeved 3/26 and down 30lbs as well. I have been eating solid foods for a couple of weeks now. I am averaging about 5 lbs a week still and am very happy with that. I don't mind taking is slow, as long as it comes off.

I am going to try to eat a little more of the Soup broth starting this afternoon. I am so ready to see at least some changes. You both are doing terrific! Just think how difficult it is to lose one pound without this surgery. To lose 5 lbs a week is going to make a remarkable difference very quickly.

Keep up the great work!

I was sleeved on the same day 3/25. I have lost 40lbs so far. I'm so happy to be on solid foods. I try to make sure I get in Protein first. I can't do another Protein shake. When I tried one a few days ago, it came right back up. I am doing pretty good. My PCP wants me to come in and do another physical just to check my levels and make sure I'm not having any Vitamin deficiencies. I will definitely make that happen sooner rather than later. I experience some fatigue at times but I try to get in more Protein. I haven't gotten started with a gym workout. I walk and that's about it for now. My intake is still rather small but I am experimenting with different foods to see how I tolerate them. I can tell you right now bread is not the move. I can do a wrap but of course only half of it. Sugar is definitely out. I also find that things high in fat, carbs, or sugar will send me right to the rest room. Oh, nothing fried either.

Good luck everyone on reaching your goals.

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
