Howdy from Texas! I had my sleeve done April 6th and have started exploring new ideas for Protein. I purchased the recommended kit from Bariatric Advantage, which included two tubs of the nectar protein; Crystal Rain (reminds me of circus peanuts) and caribbean cooler (does not taste as good as it sounds). I plan on trying the Fuzzy Navel after hearing good reviews about the taste. Here is a list of things that I have tried...

  • Premier Protein in chocolate, strawberries and cream, and vanilla. I typically like chocolate, but in this case the strawberries and cream was my favorite.
  • Adkins in dark chocolate, milk chocolate, strawberry, and caramel latte. I did not particularly like these drinks, but if I had to choose one it would be dark chocolate.
  • EAS Protein Drinks in strawberry and chocolate. This drink was very similar to the Premier Protein and the strawberry was the better choice.

Please feel free to share your protein experience!

My surgery is April 29th but here is something I plan to do to take a break from shakes. Protein Popsicles! Found this ladies website this morning and her recipes look great. http://www.getfitandyummy.com/easy-protein-popsicles/ I already have my unjury Protein packets and plan to use those instead where her recipes call for a specific brand of protein. ;)

Which EAS line did you try? I drink the AdvantEDGE Carb Control, Rich Dark chocolate flavor and really like it. The down side is that they are small and only have 17 grams of Protein, where my nuritionist wanted me drinking shakes with 20+ grams. For a while I was added unflavored whey Protein Powder to them to increase the protein. Now I don't worry about it, because I'm 7.5 months post-op and get a lot more protein from real food.< /p>

I find Matrix Vanilla to be the most veratile. I can added frozen no sugar added fruit such as mangos, peaches, strawberries. I can add SF Hershey Syrup. I have a number of flavors of the SF DaVinci syrups. (Caramel, pumpkin pie, gingerbread, brown sugar/cinnamon). My NUT suggested adding extracts such as almond.

I also have Matrix Peanut Butter Cookie. My DH loves that one. I even got him to drink a Protein shake each morning and he is really a picky eater.

I like the Matrix better than the EAS and Premier.

The Matrix is 31 grams per 8 ounces if you make it with skim milk. My NUT did not say anything about going over 20 grams per serving. I have read the studies that reflect that 20 gram maximum number but that seems to be based on building optimal muscle for bodybuilders. I am not looking to become Arnold.

Yes I sound like an ad for Matrix/Nectars but I promise I am not affiliated with them. I just really like them.

Scoop of whey in my coffee every morning for a "latte" and a PowerCrunch or Quest bar in the afternoon as a snack and I typically surpass my Protein goal of at least 75g for the day as long as I put protein first in my meals.

Since you seem to like the flavor of peanuts, you can mix some Peanut Butter and cream cheese and chocolate whey Protein (add cinnamon if you like it) and roll it into "meatballs". It has some fat and calories, but I can only eat one at a time - and they are filling.

Hello Shanea,

I LOVE a Protein powder called Isopure. It is made by a company called Nature's Best.

I've been using Isopure for over 15 years (started while I was still in the AIr Force and working out like a mad man)

Here is the link to their website. They have all their nutritional data for each product on their site.

http://www.theisopurecompany.com/en/powders

The flavorless variety will dissolve in Water to the point the Water is almost clear.

I've even added it to scrambled eggs to up the Protein content.

Two scoops (63grams) is the recommended serving size, but there's no reason you couldn't do a single scoop.

a 1 lb bag is about $22(price might be more or less for flavors) on Amazon

a 3 lb Tub is is about $53

a 7.5 lb tub is about $100

They also have a product called "Pure Naked Protein" one scoop (29grams) has 26 grams of pure whey protein.

Hope this helps

I also like isopure...I drink the vanilla zero carb kind..I use one scoop for 25 g of Protein, add milk, ice and flavor of my choice...which at the moment is done by adding pumpkin pie spice ..reminds me of DQ pumpkin pie blizzard!...I've also added PB2 or unsweetened cocoa...it's not gritty and also had Vitamins in it.

I love Unjury unflavored protein-I will put half a scoop in smaller things & a full scoop in bigger things.. I don't really like the fake sweet taste the shakes have & am not huge on sweet tastes in general..

I just tried the Vanilla Bean Torte nectar and it was great! The taste was similar to having an ice cream cone; yummy!

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
