My name is Shanea (pronounced Shayna) but most people call me Shay for short. I live in Weatherford, Texas just to the west of Fort Worth with my seven children whose ages range from seven to 18 (yes I am crazy). From the time I was an infant I have been overweight. In fact, my weight jumped over 200 pounds at the age of 13. After I had my fifth child I had made the decision to have gastric bypass surgery performed, but my husband lost his job a few months before my planned procedure and I no longer had health insurance to cover the surgery. I later had two more children and was put on phentermine by my doctor for two years where I lost 115 pounds, putting my weight at 268 (in 2009). I was happy at this weight and could shop at normal stores and do the activities that my children loved to do. The weight gradually came back after I stopped taking the medication, putting me close to where I was when I began. In August of 2014, I took out he best insurance coverage my company had to offer and began seeking help to lose weight. I did a consultation in Fort Worth the month of October with True Results, but was not happy with them since they did not offer gastric bypass. They referred me to the Nicholson Clinic in Plano, but this location was nearly a two hour drive each way. I did make an appointment, but never went. In January, 2015, I went to the ER for severe chest pain. I found out that I had infection around my heart and was referred to a cardiologist. Long story short, the cardiologist saw me four times, did a variety of testing, and recommended weight loss surgery. I went to the Nicholson Clinic on February 13th, had my egd on March sixth, then had my surgery April sixth. I was so sure that I wanted the bypass done, but when the doctor sat down and explained everything in detail, I changed my mind and decided that the gastric sleeve was going to be the best route for me. Now, I am recovering and getting a little stronger everyday.
