Hi bariatric pals!
My daughter and I have our vsg surgery scheduled for June 2nd in Cabo with Dr. Gerardo Garcia Alvarez. We have a family friend who had surgery with the same Dr. in Oct/2014. He had nothing but great things to say about, not only the Dr., but also the Hospital & staff where the surgery was performed. We went through Bariatricmexico.com. Best of luck to you in finding the right surgeon for you

Dumb question
Bread and potatoes are complex carbohydrates with a high glycemic index...aka they turn to sugar quickly after eating them.

Impatiently waiting...June sleevers?
Hi all...I'm not sure why I haven't seen this topic before now...but I'm glad I found it! My daughter and I are scheduled for our surgery June 2nd in Cabo! I am so excited! One month from today! Woohoo! We start our pre-op diet in 15 days...which seems to be sneaking up very quickly. We ran up against every road block with insurance and then started looking at Mexico for surgery as an option. After reading all the never ending hoops that some folks are needing to jump through just to get healthy, drives me crazy! ughhhh!

Unjury
My Dr wasn't a fan of the "shakes" because the 2nd ingredient is fructose. However, the Chicken Broth is yummy and got a thumbs up. I haven't tried the unflavored, but think I may get some and "protein up" my own broth.

Time off work for recovery
My surgery isn't until June, but am planning to take 2 weeks off. I have a relaxed job as well. Mostly sitting, but not "chained" to my desk. I can get up and move anytime I need to AND we have 2 treadmills, so if I need to, I always can jump on one of those on rainy days. If I stay home the whole 2 weeks, I will be surprised...but I'm glad I have that option if I feel I need it.

Come on June 8th
@@alindsey June 2nd here and I am ridiculously excited. Right now I'm in the "try it before you buy it" stage...or should I say try it before investing in a 60lb tub of it. LOL Two months ago I started "training" myself to like yogurt and that has been going very well. I started with the yummy whipped sugary and have worked my way to down to plain greek yogurt with a bit of flavored crystal light powder stirred it. It has become a "habit" now and I can now relax about greek yogurt being a part of my daily menu...without wanting to gag! I'm working through some

When choosing a surgeon....
@@JamieLogical ...I am so fortunate my PCP is supportive. She's only tried to talk me in to vsg surgery for the past 3 years! My insurance specifically had ALL Bariatric surgery excluded from my policy, so I knew it would be quicker and a whole lot less drama being a 'self pay". The cost is ridiculous here in the States for self payers...it's a shame actually. She suggested that I take a look at "Medical Tourism" which is what got me investigating Mexico...and now waa-la...scheduled for June! She has no problem with me going to Mexico and told me she has several patients that have traveled there for dental and cosmetic surgery. She's a great human, besides being a great Doctor. She cares more about me getting healthy than which Country I decide to have my surgery in! Great lady that I'm lucky to have! I only wish more folks had a physician like her.

When choosing a surgeon....
@@cmhueto I am in the same boat >sigh<. My daughter and I are scheduled for surgery on June 2nd in Cabo with Dr. Gerardo Garcia Alvarez. My friend's husband had surgery with the same Doctor about 6 months ago and had wonderful things to say, not only about him, but the facility and staff and his experience over all. The reviews I have managed to find are all positive, but as you mentioned, there are not that many. I have another friend that went to Mexico for her VSG surgery (different Dr.) and she had the same experience...great Dr., great care. My PCP here is 110% on board and will do my follow ups here. I am very confident in the decision to go to Mexico and also my Doctor. Best of luck to you!

Liquid diet suggestions
So one of the things listed on my pre-op diet, that I can have as much as I want, is PLAIN greek yogurt. What?!?!? I have tried, unsuccessfully in the past to try to choke this stuff down. Fail, fail, fail! So for the past 2 months, in preparation for becoming a "yogurt eater", I have given it another try...like the be all end all "get yer shit together girl this is the final FINAL chance you get to get accustomed to tolerating and accepting that this icky good Protein source is going to be on yer menu and in yer fridge for the remainder of yer life" kind of "try"! Sooooo....I started out with the delightfully yummy whipped sugary flavored yogurts...of course I did...and started eating one a day with my lunch. Established the habit in two-ish weeks. Then graduated to the Dannon Light & Fit...better on the label as far as sugar and calories go. I'm 6 weeks out on surgery now and know I must transition to the plain (icky) greek yogurt...>sigh< I did some experimenting in the kitchen this morning and here are the results.... Plain Greek Yogurt with Peach Mango Crystal Light powder mixed in is DELICIOUS! So is the Cherry Pomegranate!! Those two flavors were the only 2 I had on hand, but I will be trying other flavors very soon. Since I was impressed with the unjury strawberry Sorbet, I tried sprinkling that in...again, I am not really a strawberry fan but am getting used to the strawberry flavor that seems to be in EVERYTHING!!! I'm still iffy on the unjury in the yogurt, but if you like strawberry, you would most likely really like it. It mixed perfectly, no clumping. I have vanilla unjury that I may try instead of the strawberry. I feel like I'm rambling on and on...but IF any of this info helps someone else who may be struggling with the same thing...I'm happy to ramble more! LOL

Slimes for 5 hours? What the ?!?!

@@wannaBthinsoon I will have to try that. Quite honestly I haven't thought about putting unflavored into something I all ready like. btw..my friend has the same Dr. as you. She had a great experience with him and has done extremely well! I'm a self-pay and am off to Mexico in June for my surgery. I have another friend who went to the same Dr in Mexico about 8 months ago and is doing great! And these friends are actually folks that I "know" know...like one is my neighbor and the other is my BFF's hubby....not just internet-land friends In fact my neighbor was the one who got me off my butt about gettin' with it with my surgery! She said "I only wish I had done it sooner"...and we go waaaaayyy back...20+ years doing "diets" together! LOL I tried the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury strawberry Sorbet today! My first "sniff" of the powder, before mixing it, reminded me of Lucky Charms marshmallows. The taste was very good...and that's saying alot from someone who isn't that fond of strawberries in general. I was pleasantly surprised. I love the way that it mixes up the FIRST time! ...and for all of you out there "shakin" things up, you will know what I mean. I really really really like the consistency! I'll post later about whatever else I decide to try today.

Today I tried the nectar Caribbean Cooler...tasted similar to a Pina Colada. Not my favorite but will most likely keep a couple on hand for variety. I had the unjury chicken broth at 10am this morning and felt "full" until about 2pm. I was shocked...to say the least. It mixed up easily and had a good flavor. I will get a chance to try more this weekend. The flavors I have already tried give me hope that the others will taste just as good!
