Three years after gastric sleeve and I'm at a stand still and still have NOT lost what I want!

Recommended Posts

Its been three years since I've had my sleeve surgery I have slowly lost 98 pounds. My weight the day of surgery was 358 my current weight is 256.

I have been working hard to lose this weight. I I'm hungry all the time! I fight it and drink Water.

I asked the doctor the morning of my surgery to please take enough out of my stomach and he said to me I'm not taking too much because you need to eat. that scared me. I'm afraid he didn't take much out and that's why I'm struggling so hard. im not sure what to do. I would love to have the bypass.. anything does anyone have any suggestions ? I really need help with this! I have cried so many nights I wish I could exercise and move and get this weight off but I can't because of an injury so I have to watch what what I eat. I move the best I can.

All suggestions are welcome. thanks

I don't feel like I have had the sleeve surgery how can I tell? is there a way to make it feel (new ) again? that only lasted about 2 weeks.

Originally my heart was set on the gastric sleeve surgery, since it was the less evasive of the two. When I met with the dr he mentioned we can do the sleeve and I didn't lose the amount of weight that I wanted, he could go back in and do the bypass. Have you spoken to your dr about what you are going thru? or possible see a different dr?

Good luck to you

Maybe it's time to get a different Dr. and have the sleeve you have checked out. Kind of a second opinion. Then you can discuss the RNY with the new Dr., to see if it will work for you. Good luck to you, dear one....

Get a GI work up and find out how big your sleeve is. Maybe you got screwed over. How much can you eat? Do you weigh your food? Has your portion sizes increased? I've had issue with being hungry all the time too, but I can't eat anything over 3/4 to 1 cup of food even when I am starving

At 15 months, 3/4 to a cup of food fills me up, too. When I had a one-year barium swallow follow up, you could see on the images how my Miss Tummy is shaped like a small banana. I agree that images would give you the answer on how big/small your sleeve is.

Go to another surgeon and ask them to check out your sleeve. They can do an xray and tell you from there what your best course of action will be. Find out from your insurance if they will cover a revision, too, and what you need to do to start the process.

What is your typical diet? Do you log your calories and intake? What exercise can you do?

I am 3 yeArs out too. I started at 308 and have been maintaining in the upper 150s. I was pretty strict to get to goal in 14 months because I was told it gets way harderr later. I get hungry too...the hunger reduction for most of us was more during the first year.

Currently I find that the way I eat impacts my hunger. So if I habitually eat small portions eating dense Proteins first, I stay satiated longer. As soon as I start eating snacky food, my hung e r is really ttriggered again.

I think others have given you good advice, but I have a "larger" sleeve and I can eat bjgger portions these days too, I think that is somewhat typical whien you are a few years out. A bariatric center of excellence is a great place to start. I picked one with long aftercare program because I had not done well with lapband and one reason was I needed the follow up.

I think the suggestions of going for a second opinion are good. However, before you do please get copies of all your tests, especially your operative report. You may be surprised at what you find. Doctors don't tell you everything. The operative report will.

@@Cleo's Mom thanks! How do I go about getting the copy? I live 5 hours away from where I had my surgery?

Just call your surgeon and say you want a copy of your operative report and all pre and post op test results, including upper GI's etc.

Depending on your surgeon there may be a fee but you have a right to see all of this.

My philosophy is - if the doctor sees it, I see it, so I have an accordion folder filled with all my test results. It has served me very well, especially since I go back and forth between two hospital systems depending on what I am having done and they can't see each other's tests, etc...

I would see a new doctor if I were you. My original surgeon lied to me and said he put a 10cc band in and when I got the operative report and went to see a different surgeon he told me it was a 4cc. Explains why I had so many problems when the first (idiot) surgeon filled me with 3cc quickly after surgery. You might be very surprised to find out what's in your operative report. I was.

@@Erica Brownlee glad to hear your going to get what you need to get things moving again! I'm in the pre op stage and as I research more I'm finding more people with the sleeve having the same issue as you. I've decided to go with the bypass because I'm not sure I'll have an opportunity for a revision in the future if need be. Do you have to requalify to get this done or is your Dr just going in and doing it??

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
