Baked mozarella Sticks...yay or nay?

Recommended Posts

I am not a fan of cold cheese. The texture does not work for me. I was wondering if anyone has tried warm mozarella sticks? Is that a healthy Protein? I am so bored with the options (which is partly my fault because I don't eat most of the approved items).

I'm not sure if it is OK for you. If you are able to have cheese i would think it is OK if it isn't breaded.

I'm 4 months out and recently have been taking a jalapeno string cheese stick, wrapping it with a couple of slices of lunch meat and heating it in the microwave until the cheese melts. About 14 g of Protein total.

If you are talking about the breaded, fried cheese sticks I would say the calories would far outweigh the Protein benefit.

If you are talking about breaded fried mozzarella sticks, then the answer is no. If you want to somehow melt some low fat mozzarella and eat that, then maybe?

There is a tasty looking recipe here for bariatric mozzarella sticks:

http://bariatricfoodie.blogspot.com/2011/02/wls-friendly-mozzarella-sticks.html?m=1

I just plugged it into My Fitness Pal, and it came out to the following or stick (each stick is 1/2 string cheese plus breading):

Calories: 68

Fat: 3.3g

Carbs: 2.8g

Protein: 5.8g

Let us know how they turn out if you try them. I've always been very curious! Good luck!

Thanks, I am going to try the recipe above. I have a nutritional meeting in a couple of weeks and will ask (again) what other options I can try, They recommended trying foods I didn't like prior to the surgery and it was (for me) a waste of money.

This is much more difficult then I thought it would be. I just want to make sure I am getting enough Protein.

I actually utilize wonton wrappers and skim mozzarella. I cut the cheese in half and can roll it within the wonton. Or i place the wonton wrapper open faced in a muffin pan and fill it with healthy fillings like spinach and skim cheese or sautéed veggies. You can also go sweet with some mixed fresh fruit. It's an excellent vessel for placing healthy fillings inside and provides that crunch.

I am 22 months post op andi do endulge in monterella sticks. I can eat 1 to 1 1\2 backed. They are good. But I was only using liquid's for the first 3 months. All food made me sick.

You really don't want to go to fast. The last thing you want to do is strech your pouch or get the dumping syndrone. Trust me it is no fun at all.

Good luck!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
