Scared I'm not going to lose weight....2 weeks post op

Recommended Posts

From the book that I got from my doctor, it says in the first 2 weeks you'll lose 5-10% of your goal weight. So for instance, I want to lose 140lbs. In the first 2 weeks, I should lose 7-14 lbs. so I'd say you're doing pretty good :)

I like this math. Doesn't make me feel bad either. My goal weight to lose is 115lbs. I lost 17 pounds in 16 days. I hit my first goal. YAY!!!

me too

I am 3 weeks out and 10 pound lost only

Ive been having the same problem. Ive been so down thinking im not loosing enough im 2 weeks and 3 days out and lost 22lbs i feel like it should be alot more and having a hard time getting all my Water and protien in.

You lost 22lbs in 2 weeks and that's not good enough? How much more did you expect and why?

Well i thought it was good and im so glad ive lost anything. but ive seen many other people post there down alot more so i started beating myself up about it.

Please don't diminish your accomplishment by comparing yourself to others. Think back to the last time you lost that much weight in such a short period of time. For many the answer is never.

There are too many factors to consider; people are different heights, different starting weights, men tend to lose faster than women, higher starting weights lose rapidly at the beginning, some people were on pre-op liquid diets and count the weight loss pre-op in their totals, old vs young, other health conditions, etc.....

Be proud of what you have lost. Focus on YOUR program. It's nice to chat and share experiences here, but remember you paid a surgeon and his medical team to help you monitor your weight loss. They are the ones you ultimately need to consult with.

It's funny, I was having a similar conversation with my husband this evening. I'm going to my first follow up appointment tomorrow so I put on my same clothes I wore to the hospital, took the same picture with the same angle, lighting etc. As soon as I did a side by side comparison, I was shocked. I look fatter in the picture I just took! My first thought was, "great, I spent $14,000 to scar my stomach, not be able to eat, and now I look even fatter." But realistically, I know that's not the case. It will happen. I just need to be patient. And honestly, I don't regret having this done for a second. I have the rest of my life to make myself as healthy as I can be.

Would you have lost 10 if you didn't have the surgery? Celebrate that 10 pound loss!

You actually made me laugh out loud, didn't see that picture coming. Have had the same concerns but realize there is no turning back. This will take weeks, monthes and the rest of my life to be a lot better off than I was. Thanks for sharing, I am heading out the door for my 1st follow up, if he tries to take a pic…I'm running. ;)

My surgery date was 4/3. I've lost 12 pounds to date. I even gained 2 one day. Our bodies are still healing and freaking out. I've been told to not even weigh in the first month post op as there are too many factors that will reflect (or not) on the scale.

10 pounds in two weeks is a disappointment? What were you expecting/hoping to lose? I hope you can start to realize what an accomplishment this is and what a great pace you are on. Most people are thrilled to average 2 pounds a week during their first year – that’s 100 pounds down. If you AVERAGE 2 pounds a week, you’re going to have some weeks that are less than 2 pounds…so mentally prepare yourself!

You’re doing great, and you will continue to do great as long as you continue to follow the diet. And following the diet will be easier if you feel positive about it…so recognize what you are doing, and be realistic…so you can be THRILLED with 10 pounds in two weeks and excited to continue!

@@Goldy6575

Goldy don't forget people gain 7-10 during surgery because of fluids they fill you up with so you have lost whatever you gained at the hospital on top of your 10 pounds so it's a bit better than you thought. It's hard not to have high expectations because we hear about people having such amazing results. You have made a huge life change and surgery is always a big decision so I can see why you would be concerned and wondering if you might have bigger losses. Best of luck to you. :)

I have been having similar worries... I had my sleeve done on 3/18/15 and lost 20lbs in 1st two wwwks and then only 1lb each week afterward. I had read that others had lost like 40 pounds their first month or two. On the positive side I have never been able to lose 23 pounds in a month and that's 23 pounds I don't have anymore !!!

You may want to read up on starvation mode. Then you will understand your body more. You are doing okay and no one looses at the same place. I had my surgery in January and I have been going down 2.5 to 3 pounds a week slowly. With preop included I have lost so far 62lbs.

It really depends on what your BMI was when you started, what your weight is currently, etc. My BMI was 59 and I need to lose at least 200 pounds. It came off quickly, then slowed down. Last two weeks it even went up 5 pounds, but then dropped ten suddenly. I think it also depends on your fat "memory" and resetting your system. Two weeks is nothing. Give it time. Plan for the long-term and not the short-term. Stick to your Doctor's recommendations and remember to take in a lot of Protein and Water. Your body is also still in a healing mode, so it may be workingto repair itself first.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
