Hey to all ???? today I'm 11 days post-op and I got on scale, and I'm 17.6 pounds down from surgery, 33.7 pounds total. Yay ????I can't believe it's that much already.

You're doing fantastic already! What have you been having for meals?:)
thank you ???? I've been doing Fat free cottage cheese, yogurt, ricotta cheese bake, refried Beans with melted mozzarella cheese, low sodium Tomato Soup with broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and onion puréed.
Wow. Congrats , down that much in 11 days. That's amazing. I can't wait to have refried beans. I start soft foods on Tuesday. Gonna weigh myself on Tuesday which is my 2 weeks post op. What's ricotta cheese bake? Good up the good work , it's obviously paying off.

Hey peeps. So far so good. I'm doing good although I have not had a BM yet. It's been 4 days. Is this mormal?

I went 7 days without BM. I started to get worried. I ended up crushing some exlax. It took 2 days to work. But eventually did its thing. Good luck.
cool I tried Miralax but nothing so far. I was thinking of trying some milk of magnesia. I am normally constipated all the time from before this surgery due to all the pain meds I'm on from spinal cord dmg. Think it would be ok to use milk of magnesia?

My surgeons recommended MOM for Constipation.

I'd definitely talk to your doctor first. I don't think there is much difference in the two medicines. But I'd just double check. I'd hate for for there to be some kind of NSAID type problem/reaction. We don't wanna get ulcers in our stomachs. Good luck.

Oh okay! I'm on full liquids for two weeks so can't eat those quite yet! But thanks for the tips ????
It was like heaven in my mouth, eating those refried beans. It'll be your turn to eat then before you know it lol

Hello everyone.

I had my revision (lap band to GB) this past Wednesday, May 13th and just left the hospital today, Friday, May 15. The hours after surgery and first hours on Thursday were pretty bad; lots and lots of pain. I was lucky to have a wonderful team of people taking care of me and my nurse in the immediate acute recovery unit who was truly amazing and really started me off on a good path towards recovery.

Now that I'm home, I'm trying to manage the pain with the liquid Hydrocodone... but I don't wan to take it around the clock as it makes me tired and energy-less. I have a bunch of Unjury Protein powders to try and my good old GNC Protein Shakes. For now, it' s hard to believe that I would be able to keep a whole shake down (even if drinking at the 20 minutes interval) but I hope it will change as I want my energy back!

It's too soon for me to be in the "happy" phase of recovery but I'm definitely in the hopeful phase.

Congratulations to all the other May GB people for your successes and perseverance; reading your testimonies has been inspiring.

Godspeed on your recovery ???? it's definitely a life changing journey we are on. One that has many highs and many lows, I'm noticing. I just keep reminding myself, it'll all be worth it in the end. So many advantages.. So in turn my pain will not be in vain lol. The pain meds were a definite plus, but also made me very backed up. So just be careful. Be prepared to take matters in your own hands lol.. It took the exlax crushed of course 2 days to kick in lol. Last night was my first night of sleeping on my side again. I've only been able to sleep on my back and I'm not a back sleeper ever. So I had a great night last night. I went back to work yesterday, and I was pleasantly surprised that it went by smoothly. I'm a hairstylist that stands all day. I only worked 6 hours, and I survived. I wish you the best of luck and look forward to seeing more of your victories ????❤️

So Im 9 days post op, and I went back to work yesterday and again today and prob will tomorrow too. I work at a cafe, around every kind of food. It has been a bit challenging, and certainly, I am moving a bit slower. But the biggest struggle is remembering to put me and all my needs at the top of my list. like timing of Vitamin doses and hydrating enough.... and Lord knows hoping to have enough energy to walk too. I didn't expect that all to be so difficult. Before I would have just downed a 16oz Water in 5mins and chewed up my Vitamins and gone back to work. EVERYThing takes so much more time now.

I went back to work this week as well, I was 9 days post-op myself. And you are not kidding. Making myself top priority has been a challenge. And the energy got going, once I got into the groove. Good luck to ya. Every day has been easier.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
