Fearing the Hunger Monster

Recommended Posts

I am about a month away from surgery (May 4th) and as I am contemplating the pre and post op diet, my biggest fear is the hunger monster. I can diet and control my food intake for a period of time, but eventually the hunger gets to me and I totally binge. I am very afraid of this and am wondering what you have done or are doing to control the hunger?

I am on what I call my pre, pre-op diet. I have a Glucerna shake for Breakfast, a Glucerna shake for lunch, and a small sensible meal for dinner (4 oz Protein, 2 starches, 1 fruit, 2 vegs). I will follow that plan for another week, then start the pre-op diet for 2 weeks. What I've been doing when I feel hungry between meals is drink Water. :/ Not very exciting I know, but effective. In the evening when I want something sweet, I've been drinking Water with some crystal light. It helps curb that sweet craving and fills me up some.

Recordsmom...I am very impressed you are already beginning to follow the pre op diet. I thought I would start on April 1st as my "Giving up Soda" Day. I drink a ton of Coke Zero and Diet Mtn Dew, so it's going to be hard to give it up. Like you, Water is going to be my go to drink. Thanks for the kind thoughts!

Well, don't be too impressed :) I'm doing it on the instructions of my NUT. The surgeon wants me to loose 10 more lbs before surgery. I cut way back on sodas a few years ago when a cardiologist told me that carbonated drinks are hard on your system. Good luck to you. It's not easy!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
