It's still up for debate. I should hopefully have my final decision by the end of the week. I will be getting a sleeve when I go.

Let me know when you make your decision please. I will be getting a revision from band to sleeve.

I don't know about you guys but mine can't get here soon enough ! Ready to start losing and stop gaining !!

I can't wait either!!!!

Looks like I am going to have to wait until July for my sleeve. I can't get vacation time at work to take my week off until then.

Well it looks like my surgery will be much sooner than I initially planned. I will be going a May 1st. That is only 6 days away!! Yikes! I was originally looking into June for a date but due to my husband's busy schedule this time next week I will be sleeved. I will be going by myself and I am so so nervous. Has anyone else traveled to juarez alone? I've read good reviews on star medica but not many on juarez in particular. I don't plan on stepping foot outside that hospital until it is time for me to go home. Any experiences would be appreciated.

I'm typing this from the Dallas airport heading home today after surgery on Thursday. Let me tell you, I spent a whole lot of time worrying about things like random gun fire and drug cartels in Juarez only to feel slightly ridiculous once I was actually there. If I had felt a little better on Friday I would have even ventured out to the mall. You shouldn't have any problems going alone though you will need to rely a little more on the staff to help you with things. Not all speak English so just get a good translator app and you should be fine.

@@Band07 how was the process? Pain after surgery? Gas pains? Leak test? Etc?

If I was going to do it again, I wouldn't fly in and have surgery the same day. It was just too much for me personally. We left our house at 5 am and I wasn't able to eat all day. Our plane was delayed and it was 7 o'clock (9 pm to me )before I went into surgery so I was worn out, grouchy and starving to death. As far as the process, they aren't on a great schedule and things kind of just happen when they happen. If you are someone who has to know every little detail of what to expect when you will have a hard time. After the surgery I was surprised that they didn't hover much like I'm used to in the US (coming in every five mins) but they were always quick to come if I pressed the button. I had a drain (some do some don't) so that was where most of my discomfort came from and pretty bad gas pain in my left side. I had 2 leak tests, one in surgery and one the next day that I was able to watch and have a copy of. The docs were very nice but they are busy and do rush in and out so have your questions ready.

How are you feeling today? Are you able to get enough fluids in?

Feeling good, gas is pretty much gone and I only have pain when I get up and down and pull at my incisions. I feel like I'm getting my fluids in pretty good but I'm on Clear Liquids so they are going down easy. I have had some depression and some wtf did I just do moments though in regards to the bypass.

I'm glad to hear that you are doing okay as far as pain, but sorry about the depression. My mother in law had gastric sleeve a few months ago and I think she was depressed for a week or so. Then, I noticed that she seems happier than I've seen in a long time over the past few weeks. Did you feel this way when you had your lapband put in?

I didn't feel any depression at all with the band or the sleeve but this is a lot scarier I guess because of the bypass for me. I just don't want to never be able to eat anything again without feeling so sick I want to die or worse s--- my pants ! I'm on a FB group that is only MGB patients and they are trying to help calm me but also say it's pretty normal. With the sleeve you won't need to worry at all though ! You will definitely resume a normal life !

This too shall pass! I wish you success with the bypass. Soon enough you will feel better and the depression will fade away!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
