What was the last straw?

Recommended Posts

I saw this post from 2006 and it was interesting so I thought I would ask everybody... What was your last straw?

I have a ton of them but really I would say...

feeling 55 when I am really 35

not being able to care for my toddler as I should

having to be a contortionist to freakin wipe myself

not being able to go on a trip with my family for fear of not fitting in the airline seat

dressing like a homeless person and feeling dirty all the time

so what did it for you?

I'm in agreement with you!!

The Bathroom Basics realy did it for me. :girl_hug:

Also not being able to fit in most Cars, Chairs W/ Arms, Booths in resturants! (I miss the privacy of booths)

I want to walk without pain.:target:

Have Great Sex again :)

Having to buy new clothes EVERY season because last years didn't fit anymore.

The wiping the butt was starting to be a problem.

Pain in my back and knees.

Too tired to even give a crap about anything.

For me it was more of a progression, rather than a last straw. I began considering it two years ago. This past Christmas, at 284, I just decided enough was enough...no more yo-yo diets...I HAD to do something to change my life permanently. SO, I started the process in January and was banded June 1. Glad I did! I feel great and SO hopeful that THIS time I WILL acheive my goals AND maintain them.

For me it was being denied life insurance. I felt so rejected, I can't even really explain how I felt. Not to mention never feeling like going anywhere because I don't ever look the way I want. Always feeling uncomfortable and tired. This list could go on and on forever.

It's a combination of things, but being a single mom who wants to do better for my kid is the primary motivator in my life.

I need to make more money becasue I can't squeeze another penny from my check, so I'm back in school and losing weight so I will get that better job. Also, it's easier to play with the kid at a lower weight.

Go figure.

Recently watching my mother go through major surgeries because her body is just giving out on her......realizing that it most likely could be me in 20 years. Being overweight hasn't necessarily caused her problems, but it sure hasn't helped. It's time for me to stop messin' around.

Tired of being the fattest person in the room, realizing I weighed as much or more than some NFL guys, Not being able to fit into any rides at the amusement park to just name a few...

The wiping!!!! Holy crap!! (Terrible pun, I know...) This has been a problem for me, along with the grinding knees and the perpetual tiredness.....I'm glad to know I'm not the only one.

I have tried every trick in the book, and I've always gained it back. I am sick and tired of being sick and tired....Know what I mean?

Good luck to all!!

My last straw was when my son started school. I was so stressed out every time I had to go for anything in his class. I was so scared that one of the kids would say something about my size and he would be upset about it. He never thought of me as fat and would always tell me I was skinny. But I noticed I would kind of stand off in the back ground during school activities while the other parents helped there child I would hide. So I knew I had to do something for my boys. I just wanted to be a "normal" mom. Now I love going on field trips and my son loves it when I help with his class. I guess I am no longer in the back ground and that by its self has been worth it to me.

So it wasn't really a last straw for me, but just a lot over the years added up to enough. Life changes after kids, and my 3 year old did it for me. He's more than motivation for me. Also losing my father at a very young age (43) to a disease that is heriditary, as his father passed from the same disease(at 40). Being 35 in a week, I just was so depressed to think I could be gone and never see my son graduate, FROM ELEMENTARY SCHOOL!!!!!!!! He is the love of my life, as is my DH, but I always hear parents say they'd do anything for their children, even die for them. Well, I decided to live for mine, and change my life for him and my family.

* For me it was not being able to or wanting to be active with my two young kids.

* Watching other families go on hikes, bike ride together, and go swimming.

* I wouldn't be caught dead on a Water slide at our Water park, and I know how much I would love it because that really is "my thing."

* Having the terror on my son's soccer team ask me if I had swallowed a christmas tree ornament (the kid is a jerk anyway, not just with me but with everyone).

* Not caring how I look anymore

* Getting jealous of my beautiful, gorgeous 3-year-old daughter because she gets to wear so many cute clothes

* Always feeling like "fat parent" when I go to school to pick up one of my kids

.... the list goes on and on...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
