Attention from opposite sex..I'm clueless

Recommended Posts

After years of being invisible to men. I'm not quite sure what to think about attention I get now. I am happily married and not looking. I am baffled that men even look at me. I have my wedding ring on. What is going on????

A younger man asked if he could pay for my groceries. I told him that was sweet but no... I have it...He was fine and smiled and went on his way.

A month later I had two younger men in front of me in a grocery store check out. They insisted on buying my groceries. They would not take no for an answer. I brought home a free dinner for me and my husband. Is this a new way to pick up women that I am clueless about?

Holiday's I was at a sports pub for a drink. Bar tender asked for my ID. (I'm an old chick) I said..I'm a grand ma and you want my ID? He laughed and said he wanted to know if I was close to his age. My drink arrived and he paid for it. ..Again I'm clueless.

I guess I should be flattered about the attention. I'm so used to being invisible that I don't pick up on what the motivation is from men sometimes...laughing at myself. I'm clueless.

Does the attention seem a bit amplified because I'm not used to it? Does it mellow out and go away?

I guess it's nice to get a bit of attention. But it's strange at the same time...Just wanted to ask..Do women do the same to men after weight loss surgery? Do men get the same reaction?

Well you look fantastic, no wonder men are buying your groceries and paying for your drinks! :)

I don't know if it is amplified now or if it goes away later. I have spent my 20's being both thin and fat and I can always tell the difference in the way men treat me when I'm large as opposed to small. I think as a result of this I have developed a bit of a standoffish personality, which is not terribly attractive. I don't make eye contact, I don't express any interest, and they leave me alone. To be honest, I suppose there's still the inner fat girl that is afraid that if I am friendly and warm, men will just treat me like garbage like has always been the case, and then it's just me that isn't good enough, and not the fact that being fat made me undesirable.

But, I say enjoy the attention. You've certainly earned it and when you're done getting free groceries, you can go home an enjoy that dinner with your husband!

Well, I was in the grocery store one day with my three younger kids and this guy walks up to me and asked if I was married? as if he could not see that

I was wearing my wedding ring and also being trailed by three kids ...Later, I realized this guy had been following me from aisle to aisle. .Really? ....But I have to admit that I was flattered!!! :P

Yep, It's my inner fat girl. I have that standoffish personality as well. I'm trying to shake it.

Wow, Maybe it's my age or lack of experience with this... but men really do this?

Yes, Take it as a compliment! :D;)

LOL!

The groceries thing HAS to be genetic. It's like they just killed a mastodon for you and brought you the best cuts.

Love it!

Try to relax and enjoy it. :)

*laughing* I'm trying to envision women standing around the grocery store waiting to buy a guy's groceries. I guess food is the way to your heart. LOL

No offense to men that are reading this thread. But I would love to hear a guy's take on all this.

I've been a guy all my life, and this is the first I've ever heard of guys offering to buy groceries for a woman, not their wife, daughter, cousin, etc... I've been married for 30 years, so I might not be the best source. Still, I am a guy and do have single friends, so would think I would have heard of this approach. Good job! Enjoy the ego boost; needed or not it never hurts.

I also have been married for 20+ years. So, I have been out of the being single stage for many years. Maybe things have changed in the world of pick up tactics.

My husband told me instead of buying grocery's for one dinner meal. I should buy groceries for a month and see if anyone wants to pay.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
