Hmm.... Week 1 weight loss, or not.

Recommended Posts

4 days post op I was 6 pounds up. I'm assuming it was Water weight. Now 1 week later I am back to even and I weigh exactly what i did before surgery. Seems kind of strange since I have had fewer than 400 calories a day for the past week. Just wondering if anyone else had had this kind of pattern. Wondering if I will can look forward to weight loss in the near future. What was your pattern?

You're still swollen. Swelling=Water. Personal advice... Stay off the scale till your first follow up and weigh no more than weekly after that. It will help you focus on your behavior instead.

Well let me tell you, they had me up 17 pounds after surgery! It took me a week and a day to get back to surgery weight. It was pretty easy with only taking in fluids and walking every two hours while I was awake. I was at 3 weeks post yesterday and I am down 17 pounds from morning of surgery. So, 34 pounds lost since surgery. The weight comes off!

Now in the dreaded (I didn't believe it) 3 week stall!

Everybody loses at different rates during the first several weeks. Since you're concerned about it, I'm going to give you a head's-up in advance about something you're not going to like, but you'll have to get through. Read on....

The Dreaded Week-3 Stall. It's perfectly normal, and just about all of us have suffered through it. You're not crazy, and your doctor didn't screw up. In fact, you might not lose any weight for two weeks or even longer. But don't worry – after that, the pounds will start falling off if you stick to your program. And, the inches will continue to come off even while the scale isn't budging. Here's a good article that explains why it happens and why we all have to go through it. Hang in there. Pretty soon it'll be in the rear-view mirror and you'll be dropping weight again!

(Apologies to BP regulars who have seen this repeatedly, but it's a big deal to those who are going through it!)

I had lost 17lbs preop.... Got home from hospital and had put 12 of them back on. It took a few days but then they all came off plus some. I'm now officially down 30lbs (17lbs preop and 13lbs since surgery). I am 10 days post op. Hang in there, it will come off.

@@Rogofulm Well thanks for referring me to that article! It sure helps to know the "why" behind the stall.

I lost 19 lbs pre-op (360lb at surgery) and as of this morning I am 344. There is part of me that wants more. However I am only 9 days post op. I have to remind myself I didn't get this way over night so i can't expect it to come off that way.

It's hard to not be a slave to the scale. I like NSV more. My clothes are fitting better and I have have been losing inches on my measurements.

Stay positive and keep up the work.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
