I've lost 34# since surgery 12/31. I've notice on days that I get my fluids and Protein in completely I lose like crazy and when I don't I stall. I keep my carbs below 100 and eat 4 - 3 to 4oz meals a day. Trying to stick to a workout plan but life with a husband, 2&4 year old boys is draining. Need to get motivated!

I lost 52lbs since my Dec 1st surgery. I had lost 34 prior to the surgery for a total of 86lbs down. Im not a fanatic with exercise, I try to walk several times a week, a mile or two. I'm happy with the amount I'm eating (very small). I'm not eating strictly diet food either. I've only thrown up three times, had the slimes a bunch but not much lately. I'm happy with the progress so far and look forward to losing another 60 lbs.

Hey All,

I was sleeved on December 29, 2014 and I have to say, that this is one of the best things I have ever done for myself. I'm proud to say that I have lost 40 lbs. as a result of this surgery. I have more energy, my body doesn't ache, I sleep better, can play with my daughter and am a better wife. Everything has been positive and I've never been happier. I have a ton of support and haven't met a person that has made me feel bad about my decision.

My one and only negative experience happend yesterday (3/17/15) at a follow-up appointment. I was super pumped about this visit and felt good that I've lost 40 pounds in 79 days. Until my unpleasant visit with my doctor's assistant. Not one time during my brief visit with her, did she have one positive thing to say about my successful weight loss. The first thing out of her mouth was....you've only lost 40 pounds? I looked at her in disbelief at what she had said. She then went on to tell me that my weight loss is "way behind" and she is concerned that I'm doing this all wrong. She expected that my weight loss would be at a minimum of 60 pounds this far into my journey. It was explained to me by my doctor that.. 1. Everyone is different and the weight loss is different for each person...2. women lose weight naturally at a slower pace then men. So I'm a little confused about her statement and her overall poor response to me. I asked her what my goal was for my next appointment which would be the 6 month mark, she replied,"lets just get to the 60 pound weight loss that you should've already been at." ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME????? I was crushed and the tears began to flow. I exited out to the waiting room and was told that I needed to stay for blood work. After the blood work, I immeditaley left the office and promptly fell to pieces in the car. I haven't sobbed like that in a very long time. I have never been made to feel that way in my life, even when I was at my biggest. I called the office after I left to schedule the follow up that I failed to schedule prior to leaving becuase I couldn't speak. I did let them know what transpired and that I refused to be seen by her ever again.

What I've read from most of the posts is that I'm on track and everything is normal. I just can't believe it.

I was sleeved 12/2/14, I lost 26 prior to surgery and 53 since surgery for a total of 79 lbs. gone FOREVER!! Even more exciting, I have went from a snug 18W pants to a 12!!! I transformation has been unbelievable, I look good in clothes. Sure, out of clothes I look like a melting candle LOL but that's ok, I'm extremely happy with the decision I made to have surgery, It's not easy and sometimes it's not fun but the end results are so worth it. I have about 30 lbs. to go to hit the goal that my Doc set for me. When I started looking into surgery I never dreamed that in such a short time I could feel so much better physically and mentally.

@@mns112182 you're doing great!! Forget what that Dr's assistant said! A loss is a loss and 40 lbs in 79 days is great! Think about it, a half a pound a day!?! That's awesome! Screw her!!

@@mns112182, I am sorry you had that experience. That assistant should be fired. Obviously she is incompetent and insensitive. I'd report her to the surgeon personally. Hopefully the surgeon isn't as big an idiot as her. They owe you an apology. YOU ARE THE CUSTOMER!! You do NOT deserve such treatment. And furthermore, you are absolutely correct in your comment that everyone does not lose at the same pace. You've lost 40 lbs!! That is awesome and more will come. This is not a race -- it is your life!! You are on your own timeline and do not let that bully discourage you any further. Insist that you see your doctor only from now on and remember that doctor should treat you like royalty!!

Good luck!

When I went into the hospital my starting weight was 224 today I am 204.2 I can't keep anything down from liquids, Protein ect..I can't exercise because I don't have enough calories they say I would drop weight like crazy. Here's the thing I have good days and bad days. Yesterday I woke up and had some Protein in the am a small snack tried to eat a small lunch but by 3:00 I was throwing up non stop and it didn't stop until about 9:00 p.m. all I tried after lunch was some chicken Soup. When I do throw up it is sometimes what I had or just Water liquid or flem. Has anyone experienced this before? I'm scheduled to see a speech therapist on Friday but have no idea what she can do. So far today I have had 3oz of yogurt. I feel much more I wil throw it up and this has been over 1 and 1/2 hours.- please give feed back thank you. Trying to stay positive  -K

Sleeved December 31st and down 40 pounds. The most change is in my clothes and the way they fit. I've decided to wear dresses for a while to keep from buying new pants. Still struggling with fluids and Protein and it's been hard at times. Overall, very pleased with my progress. I was 236 the day of surgery so it's great to be back in the 100s!

Sorry to hear about your horrible experience. My doc was not thrilled when I only lost 9.5 lbs in second month and I felt like crap when I left the office. I was sleeved on Dec. 23 and I've lost 40 since surgery and 57 overall including pre-op diet. I am constantly scared that I am not losing enough or fast enough

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
