Hi All! Had my surgery on Monday, 3/2. I know there were quite a few people in the pre-surgery area for March, so I figured I would start a thread for us in the post section.

Day 1 was tough - they really drugged me at the hospital. I'm super sensitive to medications, so when I woke up, I was completely disoriented and hysterical. They gave me more meds to call me down. I could barely keep my head up and eyes open the entire day. Around 3pm (surgery was at 8am), I was able to realize where I was and get my Water in and walk around. Keep my pain meds up as I wanted to stay ahead of the pain.

Day 2 I was still groggy and out of it, but more alert than day 1. Wasn't able to get as much water in with the small cups but using the restroom regularly, so I think all was well. Cut back on the medicine mid day - wasn't a good idea. Took the full dose to get to sleep.

Day 3 (today) feeling much better. Folded clothes, took the dog on several short walks and have been off the pain meds all day. Feeling fine!

The recovery hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be. Been doing my best to take my Vitamins and such and getting my water in. Also gonna hit the shower now that I'm feeling more with it.

How have you guys been that have sleeved this week?

No March sleeves yet? Perhaps everyone is still resting. Hi I had my surgery on 3/2 also. 1st day loopy from drugs and 2nd day felt a lot btr and released. When I got home I had really bad gas pains abd I could not even get my Water down. I violently threw up and when I went to drink water my stomach was in a lot of pain. 3rd day I'm in the ER and re-admitted. Turns out the gas settled in my stomach and is slowly breaking down. I'm on broth Jello Protein and I eat very slowly. Still having stomach spasms when I eat but a lot btr today. Being released today and looking forward to moving out of this stage. Happy to hear you are doing well.

Happy you are getting released today! I'm still on Water and Protein. I haven't tried broth or Jello or anything like that yet. I've noticed the constant burping to bring up the gas thought - did they recommend gas-x strips? I'm also on pepcid to control the gas/acid.

Hi. Glad you are both doing better. I was also sleeved monday. Surgery was about 10:30am. I got to my room about 4pm and went for my 1st walk at 6. I only had ice chips until Tuesday until they did the leak test. Then I was able to have Clear Liquids. I had lots of gas pain but walked 3-5 times a day, but then had to take pain med. I was able to take a shower Tuesday. Wednesday no more pain just sore. Tylenol took care of that. I got all my fluids in and got out of the hospital about 1pm Wednesday. I haven't had any trouble getting in my Water and Protein Shakes. I do still burp a lot while drinking and have had a headache the last two day. Have either of you had a headache?

I had a headache on Day 3. Drinking Protein helped it go away quickly.

I had my sleeve done feb 23rd then ended up being unlucky and having a leak so that repair was the 25th. It's a slow process I would love to know what everyone can handle now.

I've was sleeved on the 2nd too. Had a problem with the pain meds. I dry heaved every time they gave me any. Didn't realize it was the druids so they kept me and extra day. They wanted me to stay another but me had a massive snowstorm and if I stayed I'd probably still be there.but I refused pain meds and everything is okay. I made had a Migraine for 2 days that is making me insane. My tummy is not enjoying Tylenol and ammodium at all. sleep is my bff right now do all I do is drink Water or broth and sleep and walk around the house done I still am pretty snowed in. It's supposed to be 65 this time of year in Kentucky. That is how my life goes lol

This is day 2 for me. Gas exiting various exits! Getting in my protein- 75 grams today and my 64 Fluid ounces. It's a full time job to get all that in! A little soreness, but no pain really anymore. The blood thinning shot, which I was somewhat worried about, was thankfully not a big deal! 9 more days of that to go. That's the latest- thank goodness for Netflix to keep me entertained!

I'm scheduled for surgery Monday the 9th. I'm excited and nervous. The process since September took so long it's hard to believe it's almost here. I was scheduled for an 8:00 and now it's moved to 1:00--a little worried that will add to anxiety from waiting. Thing I'm most worried about--nausea from the anesthesia. Was it bad for any of you?

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
