Vomiting with empty stomach? (The Adventures of Erin and Frankensleeve)

Recommended Posts

Frankensleeve: Attention! We are about to vomit!!

Erin: Frankensleeve, don't be stupid. We don't have any food in you. All we had for dinner was yogurt and that was hours ago!

Frankensleeve: I don't care! We are about to vomit! You can't tell me what to do.

Erin: Frankensleeve, just calm down.

Frankensleeve: No!! Here it comes....

[Erin vomiting VIOLENTLY]

Erin: What the f*$#, Frankensleeve?! We didn't even have anything in there. You just made me spend 30 minutes violently throwing up clear liquid and bubbles! And now I have petechial bruising around my eyes from heaving so much. You a#*hole!

Frankensleeve: Enjoy the post-vomit nausea, b(*$#!

What was Frankensleeve's problem? Has anyone else randomly vomited on an empty stomach? Did you ever figure out why? If so, please share so I can avoid ever doing that again. Afterward, I was (barely) able to keep an anti-nausea pill down. (BTW, I am 4.5 weeks out from being sleeved and everything had been going swimmingly until last night when the intense nausea struck suddenly and fiercely.)

I am 6 days post op and sometimes I get nauseous when I smell things that don't agree with me. It also happens if I stand up to fast after sitting for a long time.

You may have had a "stomach flu". That said, I recently had a 1-night stand (squat) with my porcelain throne because of a tricky gallbladder, which WILL come out when I have surgery in May! I had to go with ice chips for a few hours, then filtered Water a few more until my stomach settled.

It sounds like a stomach bug or maybe you needed to eat more for dinner? I'm almost 4 weeks post op - yesterday I had a really bad headache and when I went to eat dinner, I was nauseous and nothing really appealed to me.

I never did figure out what Frankensleeve's problem was that night. The next day I was fine and back to normal. I think he just likes to remind me who is in charge. Just to be safe, I fed him anti-nausea pills the next night before bed. He still grumbles, but hasn't thrown another tantrum. Fingers crossed that we can avoid doing that again for as long as possible!

That's happened to me a time or two. I slime a lot, and sometimes my stomach gets irritated after. Upping my PPIs or adding in a different antacid seems to help. It's frustrating! Sorry your frankensleeve is being such an a-hole!

Of my stomach is sour in the morning or if I don't take my heartburn meds on time, I sometimes will dry heave or slime. I hate it! I'm almost a year out.

I have the band (revising soon, I hope). I frequently throw up if I have an empty stomach. This isnt' the kind of trowing up I do if I'm stuck. Nothing is stuck, and actually, nothing comes up because I have a totally empty stomach. This has happened to be about 10 tines in the last 2 years. It can happen first thing in the morning, late at night, middle of the day. the common factor is that I'm usually very hungry and have gone a long time without eating or drinking. After I throw up nothing, I feel exhausted, but better. Then I drink Water and feel better. If I catch it soon enough I can eat and the nausea goes away. There is also a small window when it is too late to eat, but zofran will help me to not throw up.

Not often but occasionally I throw up hours after eating... Sometimes I wonder if maybe air causes it, like sipping Water too quickly. It is awful! But thankfully it's rare for me.

I'M ALMOST 9 WEEKS OUT AND JUST STARTED THROWING UP FOR THE FIRST TIME, THROWING UP NOTHING THOUGH LIKE YOU. I CAN'T STAND THE THOUGHT OF EATING AND I'M HAVING TO MAKE MYSELF DO SO. I'M OK WITH DRINKING FINALLY TODAY. I'M SO PRAYING THIS GOES AWAY, I'M SO AFRAID I'LL FEEL LIKE THIS FOREVER.

Hahaha Frankensleeve! I will now steal this and call my daughter's sleeve this. Unfortunately, she is 14 days post op and her Frankensleeve is stuck on "Are you paying attention? We are about to vomit" 24/7. We were NOT prepared for this. She started dry heaving yesterday. Frankensleeve woke her up at 4am with the dry heaves again this morning.

I have no help for you except to say, thank you for some much needed levity.

So our surgeon (spouse and myself ) explained that it wasn't the dinner. It was most likely something from lunch or earlier. Apparently our sleeves can get finicky and the yogurt went through but something else was lurking at the exit. Since the lurking offender is blocking the exit our saliva and Water have no choice but to come back the wrong way. It can be ugly, violent and unexpected. Both of us have had this happen. Not pretty and it makes you very unhappy with your sleeve. The worst part is it's happened with foods that have gone through fine before. Hopefully you can think back to earlier meals and find the culprit.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
