The Washington State WLS Support Group

Recommended Posts

If any of you are in the Seattle area:

The Washington State WLS Support Group is now holding meetings on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month.

Next meetings: Sundays March 1st and 15th at 3PM

The Den Coffeehouse & Cafe

10415 Beardslee Blvd., Bothell, WA 98011

425-892-8954

These are newly forming meetings and are general support but will be opening to more social and fitness activities as the weather returns. These meetings are great for people who had surgery out of state or country and who are looking for more face-to-face support. All levels and surgeries welcome. Spread the word to people that may be interested in attending. Hosts: Kay Feather & Michelle Lotus, kayfeather304@gmail.com, mountingwings@gmail.com

I'm pretty partial to Lily Chang at Virginia Mason in downtown Seattle. 206-341-1994 I've had a great experience with her and she follows folks from out of state and the country.

Dr. Landerholm, Puget Sound Surgical Center, in Edmonds. The entire staff is amazing, I never feel like a bother, they were thorough, knowledgable, made sure I was comfy. They have amazing support. I have had zero complications.

Crowd-sourcing: Hey Everyone, Kay Feather aka primal and I started a WLS support group out of what we thought was a real need in the community for face-to-face support and the opportunity to put faces to names, profile pics and avatars. It has met a few times on the Northend/Bothell area. The attendance has been hit-or miss since its inception last November. I'm wanting to throw out there a couple of questions and hoping to get some responses. Do you need face-to-face support beyond what is offered at your care facility? What would increase or decrease the chance of you attending? If you like the idea of a meet-up in what forum (cafe, church, restaurant etc), location (north, south, east, central), what topics would you like to see addressed or appeals most? Would you be interested in events like hikes or races? Or are you happy with on-line support and support from your surgery facility's . Thanks everyone for your feedback in advance! :)

Hello! I'm scheduled for surgery next week and am beginning to look for a local support group while I'm easing into my new lifestyle changes. Your post was so fortuitous! I've responded to your questions below.

I'd like to meet up face to face. While Bothell isn't too far, it is quite the drive, and my preference would be more central. I am interested in hikes, and other group activities. I haven't gone to PSSC s group but I was looking for something with more variety/mixture of experiences so there may be new ideas/ways/recipes/etc. I would enjoy an online and in person community. Let me know if I can help in any way. I would be comfortable in any location.

Good luck with your surgery. I haven't had my final appointment yet because they want me to go to two support groups and get to my goal weight. I have reached my goal weight and I go to my first support group tomorrow.

I am having surgery Monday the 11th. Having a groups meeting so close by seems amazing! I am in Woodinville. I will look you up when I feel up to it after surgery. Glad you are organizing this!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
