Happy birthday? No, not Happy! Rant

It's my birthday, my 27th bday and I'm like 11 days post op. My first without a great dinner and cake. I'm struggling today. All I want is to lose some weight. I don't want to be classified as "morbidly obese" anymore. I wanna go on roller coasters and feel comfortable when I fly. I need this surgery. I'm glad I had it but...... Today I hate it! I'm so weak it's insane. I've had about 12 oz of fluid today and one bite of yogurt. That's really me trying all day. I tried drinking more and I barfed. Barfed all over my backseat. Today I want cake, I want to go to dinner, I want to have energy to enjoy a walk with my family... And I can't! My body is too weak, my sleeve is being an ass and I'm regretting my decision today! Why can't I be one of the ones that can drink 64oz of water and 3 shakes a day? I know it will get better right? It has to. I know it's still fresh and new but I'm suppose to start soft solids on Monday and I can't tolerate full liquids. YA I've lost 25 pounds in 11 days, I'm happy about that ....but not really. My husband is very sad because he sees me like this. I'm depressed. I'm never sad. I'm always happy and cheerful.. What have I done? My kids need me fully functioning.... I just wanna scream... Rant over

At least now you know what the problem is and they are taking steps to correct it. I know it's tough now and you have some rough days ahead, but hang in there! A few months from now this will be a distant memory!

Maybe do a little aspirational window shopping (online) looking at hot dresses to wear next year on your birthday because by then no matter what you wear, you'll look fierce! Hopefully it will boost morale and keep you in better spirits ???? good luck to you with the hospital

Sorry to hear about everything but Im sure things will get better. This whole experience is a pretty crazy roller coaster. its going to be hard not associating special ocasions with food. the payoff will be so worth it though. Im glad theres a place like this for everyone to support each other. Hope you have a Happy Birthday!

You are in my prayers. I hope the steroids help and they are able to fix the stricture and inflammation. Hang in there.

I'm going to be in the same place. My 2 week diet started today, tomorrow is Valentine's my anniversary is 15 days after surgery and my birthday is 26 days after surgery. I know I will be in the same boat. Happy Birthday and you know it'll get better. Just hang in there

I haven't had the surgery yet, but my pre op liquid diet is my birthday week at the end of Feb. The things we do to get healthy, right!! @@Jazmundo I am really happy to hear you called your doctor right away before the dehydration got a good hold on you. I'm looking forward to reading how much better you feel once you are back on your feet. Take care, Sherrie

Happy (belated) Birthday! I agree with the others, think how AWESOME you will be next year on your b-day. Are you feeling better today?

@Jazmundo,

It's by no means real cake, BUT, with our taste buds a-changin post-op, this smoothy is surprisingly close to the real thing in all but texture.

8 oz cold fat-free milk
1 scoop vanilla Protein powder*
1 tbsp sugar-free instant cheesecake pudding mix, dry
½ tsp cherry extract
3 ice cubes
-Blend in blender on high for 45 seconds.
-Measure out ¼ cup and serve.
Nutrient Analysis: 60.4 calories, 8.4g protein, 6.5g carbohydrate, .2g fat.
Though do wait until the stricture is cleared up - poor you! Let us know how we can support you.

Complications suck! But it sounds like your surgical team is on top of it, hopefully once you can start getting fluids and nutrients down, things will start smoothing out. Just keep this in mind when someone says something to you about WLS being the easy way out. Hang in there, and keep the faith.
