How long was your hospital stay?

Recommended Posts

Assuming you did not have major complications, how long was your hospital stay?

Thanks!

I was in for 2 nights. I live over 3 hours from my surgeon so they kept me the second night to get me ahead on fluids, etc. honestly, staying the second night was a blessing. I felt so much better after the 2nd night than I had after the 1st. I will say the first week after surgery still sucked a$$. No matter which way you go, make sure you take the time to take care of yourself while recovering. I have 2 kids so I know what you are facing when you get home. Stock up on easy to prepare foods you can toss in the microwave or oven to cook. Either cook a few meals ahead of time and freeze them, or let your kids off the hook and have chicken nuggets, fish sticks, Mac & cheese, frozen lasagna, etc for dinner that first week. My kids thought they hit the jackpot that first week! They don't get "junk" food like that for that many meals in a row. Heck, I even let them pick out a few frozen meals (think TV dinners). It was a balance between letting myself heal and getting their basic needs met. Depending on how old your children are, you can also start teaching them to do basic cooking tasks like preheating the oven, reading packages for temperatures and instructions, safe handling of hot food, etc. good luck and remember this will only be for a short period of time.

I likely would have only had to stay 1 night, but there was a blizzard on the day of my surgery, so I couldn't go home and some of the hospital staff they wanted me to meet with before leaving couldn't get there, so I stayed 2 nights!

I was scheduled to stay one night, but stayed two. I was having some nausea which prevented me from getting in all of my fluids. They wouldn't let me leave until I was below 4 on the pain scale, was up walking frequently, and could drink the required amount.

I had a 3 day stay (complications) and was begging to go home. I was in a private room but I literally could not get any sleep. The medical care at the hospital was exceptional, but it certainly wasn't a place where I was going to get any rest.

I ended up staying two. I had severe nausea and could not get down all the liquid they wanted me to. I still couldn't get enough down after the second night, however I begged to go home and they took pity on me and sent me with nausea meds.

I haven't had surgery yet, but my program requires two nights in the hospital.

2 nights as scheduled, got out yesterday. I was really, really ready to go by the third day! However I needed the education as to how much food was tolerable, and watching others helped with that.

I had no complications, although some others on the same ward were really poorly just afterwards, vomiting blood, cramps all kinds of wierd stuff. I actually felt a few negative vibes from others that I hadn't suffered!

I stayed over the night. Just try to walk when you feel up to it in the hospital--it really helped for me.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
